I'd definitely recommend a viewing before purchase, if you're able. Monster Dog is one of the most drearily inept films ever made.

Of course it is - it's Italian . I don't know what bandwagon they were jumping on with this one, there weren't a lot of killer dog movies being made at the time. But this will be worth a blind buy based on that cover alone - at least for me.

Despite it's title, the movie is actually
[Show spoiler]a werewolf flick
. Which is why I'll be buying it. (And it's from the 80's ).

It's a blind buy for me because it has somehow evaded me for years at the bottom of the barrel in horror b-movies.

That reminds me - I really wish the labels would go after some titles that havent had official releases other than bootlegs. Im sure there are various reasons for why some titles havent been officially released but Im all for it..
Movies like The Flame Barrier, Trilogy of Terror II, Among the Living, The Loch Ness Horror , Mutiny in Outer Space, Space Master X7, ManEater of Hydra, World of Vampires and The Monster from Piedras Blancas..
Id love to see them all get *real* releases. Glad to see Monster Dog get a crack at the big time

Is it known if this will be the standard 84 minute version or the 89 minute version that was released in Japan on laserdisc?

MGM HD or Epix showed it in HD more than a few times. The best part is that Alice Cooper is re-dubbed to sound like every black comedian's impersonation of a stuffy white guy.

At first glance, I would stay away from this, but the fact that this was directed by the same genius who directed Troll 2 sure is tempting..

It would be interesting to analyze his evolution in his early years as a director and how he grew as a filmmaker throughout the years that eventually culminated in his greatest work - Troll 2.

Just got it in today and gave it a spot check. It looks like a good video transfer. There is fine detail, and the grain looks natural. Easily the best home video presentation. The audio, I don't know. Someone else will have to comment on that. I'm not an audiophile.

It is the 84 minute version with the additional footage/scenes from the Japanese laser disc included as extras (with Japanese subtitles). The footage looks like it was sourced from a VHS bootleg rather than the actual laser disc. I haven't looked at any of the other extras yet.

Sounds like something I'd enjoy but I'll look into it more before deciding on a blind buy.
