Default Hulu's "11.22.63" (Event Series)

Quote:
Stephen King’s 11/22/63 Optioned by Bad Robot for Cable TV Series

With Stephen King’s Under the Dome set for its series debut on CBS this summer, the acclaimed author may be setting his sights on another TV show. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot is vying for the TV rights to King’s time-traveling John F. Kennedy assassination novel, 11/22/63. An adaptation of the book was previously attempted for a feature film, but there were creative disagreements over how to handle the unwieldy tome. It looks like 11/22/63 may be bound for cable as a Warner Bros.-backed TV series instead of a full-length feature. Hit the jump for more.

Deadline reports that Bad Robot is in negotiations for the rights to the King novel with an eye toward producing a cable TV series or mini-series. Still no word on what the hell is going on with The Dark Tower.

Here’s the book description for 11/22/63: A Novel (via Amazon):

Quote:
Dallas, 11/22/63: Three shots ring out.

President John F. Kennedy is dead.

Life can turn on a dime—or stumble into the extraordinary, as it does for Jake Epping, a high school English teacher in a Maine town. While grading essays by his GED students, Jake reads a gruesome, enthralling piece penned by janitor Harry Dunning: fifty years ago, Harry somehow survived his father’s sledgehammer slaughter of his entire family. Jake is blown away . . . but an even more bizarre secret comes to light when Jake’s friend Al, owner of the local diner, enlists Jake to take over the mission that has become his obsession—to prevent the Kennedy assassination. How? By stepping through a portal in the diner’s storeroom, and into the era of Ike and Elvis, of big American cars, sock hops, and cigarette smoke. . . . Finding himself in warmhearted Jodie, Texas, Jake begins a new life. But all turns in the road lead to a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald. The course of history is about to be rewritten . . . and become heart-stoppingly suspenseful.

In Stephen King’s “most ambitious and accomplished” (NPR) novel, time travel has never been so believable. Or so terrifying.

Please not on Basic Cable.
I am already very annoyed that the worst main network ever, CBS, is gonna ruin Under The Dome.

Maybe AMC or A&E or FX could do this but I do not want this on on the big 4 networks please.

I would be jumping up and down if that was possible right this moment. This book is my absolute favorite by King, and has a lot of potential.

Two things I want to address.

1) I don't think CBS wil ruin Under the Dome. I think it will be an 11 Part miniseries which is pretty big and would give them time to do it right and not rush it. King seems to be very involved in this series and the director if very capable. I have high hopes.

2) This one of my favorite of King's books and since I read it, I wanted to see it brought to life, but I'll only say this once. If they are not willing to give them the budget and time make it right, I would rather see it not get made. I want them to get 1958 to 1963 exactly right. I want the cast to be right. I think the people on this site could come up with actors/actresses to fit the roles better than casting can.

This is all I ask. MAKE IT HAPPEN!

A&E would be ideal. I love the book, and I feel like a TV series, if done right, can do the book more justice than a movie.

Great news. I was disappointed when plans for a Jonathan Demme film fell through, but at least there'll be a series.

J.J. Abrams and Stephen King’s ’11/22/63′ Is Coming to Hulu

Another Stephen King story is coming to the small screen. 11/22/63, which J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot optioned for TV last year, has just received a straight-to-series order from Hulu.

As the title suggests, 11/22/63 centers on the assassination of JFK. But there’s a supernatural bent — the protagonist is a modern man who travels back in time to try and prevent the tragedy from ever taking place. Hit the jump for more on the 11 22 63 TV series.

Deadline reports that Bridget Carpenter (The Red Road) adapted 11/22/63 for Hulu and will executive produce along with King, Abrams, and Bryan Burk. The story follows Jake, an unassuming English teacher who discovers a time portal that takes him to 9/9/1958.

He sets out to try and stop the assassination of JFK, which he already knows will take place in 1963. But, as always, things get complicated. Jake falls in love, crosses paths with Lee Harvey Oswald, and discovers that the past does not take particularly well to being altered.

Hulu will initially present 11/22/63 as an “event series” with a first season that consists of nine episodes. However, should the show take off Hulu may consider ordering additional seasons centered on different historical events.

King’s tome was in the works as a movie by Jonathan Demme a few years ago, but that incarnation of the project stalled. Bad Robot picked up the book last spring with the intention of bringing it to cable TV. Hulu isn’t technically a cable TV channel, but for these purposes it’s close enough.

“I’ve been a fan of Stephen King since I was in junior high school,” said Abrams in a statement. “The chance to work with him at all, let alone on a story so compelling, emotional and imaginative, is a dream.” King added, “If I ever wrote a book that cries out for long-form, event TV programming, 11/22/63 is it.”

11/22/63 is the second King tale to strike a TV deal this month. A few weeks ago CBS, which previously found success with the King adaptation Under the Dome, put into development the post-9/11 drama The Things They Left Behind.

Works for me. I like Hulu. Unless I missed it, I wish they had a release date posted.

I was excited too for Under the Dome. It could have been a great show. Instead, Under the Dome, is hands down one of the worst shows that I have ever seen.

Hopefully Bad Robot has another hit on their hands like Revolution, Only Human, Alcatraz and Undercovers. Honestly other than Lost and maybe Fringe why would anyone give Bad Robot money to make shows? This could have been a great movie with a competent director and cast.

James Franco will star in Hulu's Stephen King adaptation '11/22/63'

Quote:
Hulu has found a star for its first big drama series, signing James Franco to topline its time-travel thriller 11/22/63.

The Interview and 127 Hours actor will star as a high school English teacher who travels back in time to try and stop the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The project is a nine-hour event series produced by J.J. Abrams and writer-producer Bridget Carpenter and based on Stephen King’s 2011 bestseller of the same title.

The series will mark the return of Franco to the small screen, where he launched his career in Fox’s cult-favorite Freaks and Geeks in 1999 and had a recurring role on General Hospital.

Hulu’s 11/22/63 is expected to fully cover the self-contained story in King’s novel. What happens after that will likely depend on the project’s performance, but the show presumably could be a franchise that includes additional seasons tackling different historic events.

I'm hoping for just a mini-series that will cover just the book, and I'm definitely hoping for it to be not another Under the Dome!!
