Okay, I'm at level 55 - as of last night - and played about 8 rounds after hitting 55.

How and when does Prestige Mode unlock?

You have to play a little more

you need like 5k xp before you can unlock prestige.

I've noticed it doesn't tally your points (collectively) like all other 54 levels?

It's just unlocks when you reach 5000 XP?

it actually does keep track of your xp after you hit 55, but i think you have to go into the barracks to see it or something. can't get to my ps3 right now, so i can't tell for sure.

either way, it definitely tracks your xp.

i'm on my 2nd prestige run now, level 51. i'm very fond of it because it's forcing me to go back to weapons i would have left behind long ago... the g3 is surprisingly kickass. awesome pseudo-sniper rifle, and so long as you can pull the trigger fast enough, it may as well be fully auto.

To update - I have played several more rounds at level 55 and have amassed well over 5000 XP points and still no unlock.

I am wondering, will it only unlock if I have completed every available challenge? Does it not unlocking sound right?

Check in the barracks section, I believe it's near the bottom of the list on the left.
