Good fit, but he doesn't have a strong record of sticking with projects in development.

Please don't put Charlie Hunnam in this, Del Toro. He's already run two movies into the ground.

Let’s hope the overrated filmmaker doesn’t ruin Alvin Schwartz’s trilogy of books

On the heels of “Crimson Peak” flopping at the box office, Guillermo del Toro has signed on to direct “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” based on the trilogy of books by Alvin Schwartz.

John August wrote the script, thought plot details remain under wraps.

Del Toro is the acclaimed director of “Pan’s Labyrinth,” though he has yet to make a great English-language film and has been coasting on his reputation for the past several years.

Del Toro’s attachment comes as his plans for a “Pacific Rim” sequel have stalled and he negotiates with 20th Century Fox to direct its remake of “Fantastic Voyage.”

His most recent film, last fall’s haunted-house thriller “Crimson Peak,” grossed $31 million at the domestic box office on a production budget of $55 million.
I can't quite tell, but I think this guy dislikes del Toro.

I'll believe this s*** when he's actually on set. Del Toro is the king of announcing projects and dropping them shortly after.

Personally they won't be able to do the books justice if it's live action. That artwork is still amazing and just wouldn't come off as well using CGI or make up effects.

One other thing, are they going to pull a Goosebumps and combine numerous stories for one film? It's better off as a anthology show on TV.

Seeing as I didn't like Crimson Peak, Pacific Rim, or even his early "horror" stuff like Cronos and The Devil's Backbone...I'm not looking forward to this.

I loved that book series so much as a kid. I'd hate to see it turned into a super family friendly PG type movie like Goosebumps was. The target demographic should be people around 25-35; the ones that actually grew up reading those stories. I want it to be a legit creepy, scary movie-going experience.

Loved Crimson peak and this sounds fun.
I worry about his health but I hope he makes something new soon.

I read these books back in Elementary school and I'm struggling to see how one could turn them into a movie.
