Yes, they're the special editions with the added CG.

Yes, this is the 2000 (I think) re-release/repackage of the special editions.

I think this is the original trilogy on VHS? I'd really like to get these on laserdisc and replace my old player.

I don't know. I don't keep track of threads that are clearly about things that don't interest me. I just scroll past them and look for things I like instead of whining about what I don't.

Yup, those are the THX Editions, released in 1995 in both widescreen and full-frame. The last time the unaltered versions were released on home video, at least until those two-disc DVDs that included them in non-Anamorphic. There were two different box sets.

Man, bought the mrs. a set that I think was letterboxed back when were dating in the late 90's, but can't remember which set that is? It is in a box somewhere. I came across it when I was moving some stuff around, never even broke the seal lol.

Just to clarify, those *are* altered, but they are the pre-1995 special editions. The notable differences are things like color correction and some minor effects retouching.

I fondly remember watching Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark on Betamax over at a friends house.

I remember over at a friends house when I was a kid in the 1980's they had the OT all on CED. Different friend though. Think in 1995 I got the THX VHS Widescreen versions, then 1997 the Silver Widescreen set for the Special Editions on VHS, then I got the 2004 OT DVD set, then the OT Limited Editions not long after. But 10 years ago in 2006 I stopped being an avid fan of STAR WARS.
Of course the different releases of the OT on Laserdisc for the Unaltered are the best versions available around in terms of sound and image quality. But depending on the Laserdisc player you had was also determinate with those two factors.

Not sure if already mentioned but one way to tell is that the original film wasn't called A New Hope. Lucas added that when he did his first changes.

Lucas added that in, what, '79 or '80 for the re-release? So every subsequent video version ever has carried the A New Hope title AFAIK, aside from the version of the UOT they released on DVD.

No idea about the year. All I know is that I was born in 1981 and the VHS copies my parents had that I grew up watching were the untouched originals.

Download the Despecialized editions that were remade from the original filmstrips, Laserdiscs, and scenes on blu-ray that were not modified. Great quality!

Already have them and made custom DVDs without menus. And the first of Adywans Star Wars Fan Edits. No idea if he finished with his editions of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
