Dreamworks Abominable 3D Blu-ray (2019) [Region Free] [MOD in USA]

All releases of Abominable are REGION FREE. In some countries (e.g. Germany) the film has been re-titled as Everest but this only applies to the title on the packaging - the title card on the film itself remains Abominable.

Abominable 4K + 3D Blu-ray

DreamWorks Animation and Pearl Studio’s co-production Abominable takes audiences on an epic 2,000-mile adventure from the streets of Shanghai to the breathtaking Himalayan snowscapes.*

When teenage Yi (Chloe Bennet, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) encounters a young Yeti on the roof of her apartment building in Shanghai, she and her mischievous friends, Jin (Tenzing Norgay Trainor) and Peng (Albert Tsai), name him “Everest” and embark on an epic quest to reunite the magical creature with his family at the highest point on Earth.

But the trio of friends will have to stay one-step ahead of Burnish (Eddie Izzard), a wealthy man intent on capturing a Yeti, and zoologist Dr. Zara (Sarah Paulson) to help Everest get home.

Written and directed by Jill Culton (Open Season, Monsters, Inc., Toy Story 2) and produced by Suzanne Buirgy (Kung Fu Panda 2, Home), Abominable is executive produced by Tim Johnson (Over the Hedge, Home, ANTZ) and is co-directed by Todd Wilderman (Trolls, The Croods).

Abominable will be released by Universal Pictures worldwide beginning September 27, 2019. In China, the film will be distributed by*Pearl.

I actually had to go searching for this thread because I couldn't find it on the first page of the forum, and I feel like that's typical for this movie. It's totally flying under the radar and no one is going to see it. But I thought the trailer was quite charming, so I decided to check it out. And not only is it a charming story with some magical visuals, it looks really good in 3D.

For a change, I felt like there was a lot more pop out than pop in, which is what you usually find in modern 3D movies. I didn't feel like there was a whole lot of depth with the scenery going into the screen, but there are some rather nice pop outs involving weapons (and bow strings) being held out into the screen (one held long enough for me to notice it was hovering out as far as the row in front of me) and some flower vomit coming right at you. I found it refreshing that not only did a director think about 3D when animating, but that they actually pushed it so things came out of the screen further than usual.

I was quite impressed with the 3D presentation, and I would recommend checking it out because it's Universal, and they appear to have given up on any kind of 3D home release, so this will be the only way anyone will be able to enjoy the 3D. I'd love for them to prove me wrong later on when they announce the DVD and Blu-ray, but I'm not going to hold my breath...

Having seen the 2D version in Dolby, I'm sure it must look pretty good in 3D - but I don't even know if anyone is showing the 3D version stateside.

Caught it last night. It was entertaining. I enjoyed it. Thought the 3D was quite good and yes, there are some pop outs.

Wootini, are you thinking about Paramount? Because Universal's track record for releasing 3D blu-rays is actually pretty good.

In fact, Amazon Germany already has a pre-order up.

3D got the shaft as usual, most theaters in the U.S. opted for 2D showings only on this.

Glad my theaters got plenty of 3D showtimes. Saw it today and loved it (movie and the 3D)

Oh, maybe I am thinking about Paramount? I thought it was Universal who did Bumblebee, which was a lot of fun in 3D but never got a 3D Blu home release... Well, that's good, then. I just checked my How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which turns out was also Universal. Phew! I had to import that one from Amazon.uk since they'd also given up on the US market, but at least that gives me hope I can also import a region free copy of Abominable! Thanks for putting me straight!

I also thought the 3D was great in this movie. Many more Pop-outs than I've seen recently. It was obvious that several of the scenes were framed specifically with 3D in mind. The movie itself was excellent as well.

There was even a new 3D Dreamworks Studio logo I hadn't seen before in the beginning plus another 3D studio logo that were very good in 3D. I was disappointed that they showed a couple of the upcoming 3D movie trailers in 2D. They only showed one trailer in 3D.

If memory serves me it was Adams Family and Maleficent that were in 2D. I think it was Spies in Disguise that was in 3D.

For me, I recall Adams Family and Trolls World Tour trailers being in 2D. Spies in Disguise being the only 3D trailer.

I saw this in RealD this weekend - thought the film was very enjoyable and had some great visual moments. The 3D was medium throughout with a few pop out effects (using the protagonist's violin bow protruding outwards towards the audience.) Happy I saw it in 3D theatrically - hoping it gets released overseas on disc (I'm seeing one German 3D option at this point.) I'll be happy to import.

Yeah, for me the Jumanji and Trolls trailers were in 2D. The only 3D trailer was Frozen 2. Everyone is on point with the 3D and movie being enjoyable.

I see, most of those trailers have no 3D DCP available like Trolls, Jumanji 3 and Addams Family. Maleficent 2 has one but its old already.

I should have added that there were at least 3 scenes where multiple little kids around me were reaching out to touch the item protruding out of the screen... Violin Bow, flower petals, and etc. I guess I've seen way too much 3D as it doesn't really have that visual affect on me any more but it's good to see the little kids react like it was right out in front of them.
