Default Thunderbirds: The Complete Series (1965-1966)

Interesting, lists the Aspect Ratio as 1.33 as well:

Looks like Shout is releasing the other Gerry Anderson series as well, but unfortunately they will be available only on DVD. Only Thunderbirds made the cut. Don't know why they didn't think there was a BLu-ray market for Captain Scarlet at least.

Tremendously awesome! I really enjoyed the Twilight Time movie double feature and I've been holding off on seeing (most of) the episodes until they received a proper HD release. Between this, Batman, and Lost in Space, I'm getting more and more optimistic for more classic TV on BR.

Yeah... I noticed that, and it's really a shame. Personally, I'd be delighted to pick up anything Gerry Anderson, but I'm not going to buy DVDs (of shows shot on film) while there are still other BRs on my wishlist. Maybe the success of Thunderbirds will lead them to consider a future HD upgrade? At any rate, it wouldn't surprise me to see a few of the other titles pop up on BR in Japan sometime in the next couple of years. They seem to love shows like these.

HD masters have been available for a few years of Thunderbirds.
As far as I know only selected episodes have been remastered for HD of the other Supermarionation series.

I expect a Scarlet Bluray at some point but ITV have generally given up on Bluray themselves and archive material is being left to other labels to licence and with the exception of a few select movies even ITV owned movies of which there are many are also still languishing in their archives in SD only.

At least this release makes it look almost certain now that the Year 2 Space 1999 Bluray already scheduled for a UK release later this year will be available to US collectors via Shout

I don't think HD transfers currently exist for all Captain Scarlet, just the ones Network paid to have done for the UK Filmed in Supermarionation discs. The DVDs of the others are reissues of the SD remasters made in the early 00s which are are about as good as SD can manage, they were generally very competently done.

I hope Shout! manage to avoid the cropped ITV masters (with other issues) like the plague and licence the superior 4:3 Japanese remasters. 1.33:1 on their website suggests promise.

I guess that makes sense. Hopefully we'll see CS on BD one of these days.

FB messaged Shout to ask about the transfer and audio options. Will post when/if I get a response.

EDIT: Message I received said that they don't have these details at this point in time.

Pretty nifty! I enjoyed the two movies I picked up last year so I'll likely add the series as well.

Maybe look at the Japanese BDs for an example?

Are the ITV and Japanese versions from the same HD master, except that the ITV version has been cropped to 1.78 AR?

Pretty excited for this and the price at Shout's store isn't too bad. Wonder what it will be going for from Amazon.

My main concern isn't the picture for once. I hope, like the Japanese release, there is an option for different audio, including one without the infernal sound effects. I loath them.

There's also a concern from some parties at the reduction in the number of discs. The Japanese set has 9, this has 6.

Japanese releases always use more discs than is really necessary, makes you feel you are getting more for your money.

The UK set is 6 discs and cropping aside the picture quality is fantastic.

Very true, hadn't thought about that. And I have the UK set myself. Cheers!

If it's 4:3, those black bars won't take up as much encoding room as a full 16:9 picture either.

I'm amused that Shout! are wanting to keep discs to a modest minimum on this yet I'm nearly finished their new Zyurangers DVD discs which is overkill at 10 discs but has a lovely high bitrate for both video and audio throughout. Dolby Digital 384kb/s for 2.0 audio on DVD. I guess BDs are more expensive to press.
