This movie had a much-buzzed about trailer, so I went to see it in a theater last night. It is a huge, huge letdown. Even though I was tired, in the first five minutes I had a thought as to where the story was going and then was stuck watching this terrible, hacky idea play out for 99 minutes that felt like two and a half hours.

This finally came to a theater here in Indianapolis, and I saw it on Halloween. I liked it quite a bit, but it's not what the trailer would have you think it is. More...'Audition' than 'Babadook', if that makes any sense.
I'll still probably be buying it though. |

From horror site reviews, I read that they say the atmosphere, mood, cinematography and suspense outweighs the rather lackluster third act.
And if it's "more Audition than Babadook" (per Greymatter), then that's a positive thing from my perspective tastes. |

You would think that its possible Foreign Film Oscar nomination and the attention and mild success it received would have granted a better release but no
![]() Same issue with Horns, The Last Five Years, etc. Hey atleast Snow Piercer got a sleek slipcover! So far I feel that only It Follows has seen a good release from them. |

So I watched this.
From all the things I'd read, here included, I expected a 'twist' of sorts. My intuition was correct. Having watched enough cinema, you start to pick up on things quicker. How things are handled when you want a certain effect. This played right down to both of my suspicions about the film. The trailer would have you believe you were in for something completely different. I guess it did it's job, because I watched the film. Which I enjoyed. Although I didn't find it scary. Or to be "nightmare fuel." That's a new one... I appreciated the calm tone and the beautiful shots. Here's where I have a problem; what film are these critics watching? The reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, it's like they're from a different film. Talk about "tension" and satisfying your "Halloween bloodlust." And to call it a "splatter pic." I'm sorry, but I'm left scratching my head. Those descriptions are more appropriate for a film like, say, High Tension. Or Funny Games. Not Goodnight Mommy. And FWIW, I favor the original title, "Ich Seh Ich Seh." Long story short, I enjoyed the film but was left scratching my head over it's criticism, deceptive trailer, and (US?) marketing strategy. |

Nobody is going to reply until Monday, because people don't post as much on weekends. They only seem to reply while at work during the week, which tells me two things 1. People don't have internet access at home, which is sad. 2. They're posting while on the job, which means they're not working, not doing their job, which makes them replaceable, which is sad. |
