For my tastes, Titanic is too much of a chick flick. Not that I’m against those outright, but I don’t think they blend so well with a disaster movie. The Abyss gets my vote.

TITANIC : one of the worst films of all time - overblown, no story, trite, indulgent... 3 hrs for this ??? how Fox/Paramount let Cameron go and spend so much money for a story of 'love between the classes' one will never know why.

And they gave Oscars for this crap.... against...

THE ABYSS : technically this film is one of a kind....filming underwater...great tension..ground breaking FX at the time..... but Cameron just didn't know where he wanted to go or how to end it. In the end.... well it just ended... and it wasn't the BO success that Fox were expecting.

The Abyss for me. Will we ever see a HD copy ??

The Abyss is a masterpiece while Titanic is fine but if I am going to watch a film about the Titanic then I will put on A Night to Remember.

Both are great films.

They have their respective weaknesses and strengths but both are engaging and entertaining, as well technological achievements in their own rights.

To which is my favorite, it really depends on my mood. When I was younger it definitely would be The Abyss. Yet I have always enjoyed Titanic as well and it is very much a James Cameron movie and script. So both.

As shown in theatres, Titanic. But the extended cut of Abyss would win otherwise.
