Japan Amazon.co.jp Italian Horror Blus

So, Amazon.co.jp release a bunch of blus (Stendhal Syndrome, Tenebrae, La Setta, The Church, and Dellamort Dellamore) that I wanna buy.

Any one here have the blurays and can comment on the Quality?

I believe that the company that put out the Church said it was sourced from an SD master. However, I myself am interested in The Sect.

I have The Sect and The Church on they way. Was only going to get The Sect as the other is an upscale, but had a bit of overtime this month so decided to get both as I don't have The Church on dvd and I do like Japanese packaging. I know Code Red are putting it out but as I'm in the UK I'll have to jump through hoops to get it. Hoping they'll arrive for the weekend, will keep you posted.

The Sect and The Church arrived today, I've had a quick look at bits of them. As advertised, The Church is an upscale. I don't have a dvd to compare it too, but it looks ok for what it is. Blacks are weak and if you look closely at the edges of things you can see evidence of the upscaling, but detail isn't bad in close-ups. As for The Sect, it is HD but looks to me like it's been scrubbed to remove grain and detail. The blacks are deeper but overall it isn't much better looking than The Church. The opening credits appear to be SD. Probably worth waiting for a cheaper option.

Thanks man!

That's disappointing, especially for a $40 release... Going to have to pass for now I guess. But I'm still going to pick up Dellamorte Dellamore.

I own the Japanese Dellamorte Dellamore BD, and it's really solid. There's a thread on this site for it. I definitely recommend it.

I'm curious about Phenomena. The reviews on Amazon JP aren't that stellar, and I know Synapse is working on their release.

... aren't both 'the sect' and 'the church' due this year in the USA from 'code red'? think that's been on the cards since last summer.

Yes, I think one or both are. I believe I read somewhere that Walt from Scorpion may be working on the transfer. Don't get me started on Code Red though, sick and tired of playing games just to get a copy of their titles in the UK. I'd love to get the latest batch of their Spanish titles but they won't ship internationally and they seem to have had a falling out with Diabolik and won't supply them. At least I can order from Japan and get these in three days.

i've not needed to try to source any code red - my tastes don't go that far towards trashy films - but do follow the discussions to some extent. have my eye on screen archives as a possible source, or could get someone from the US to send one on. mostly interested in seeing 'the sect' again, not seen it in about 20 years.

I'm hoping common sense will prevail with these and Opera, these are too big titles to distribute in this way, it would be nice if they use Kino as they have a relationship.

I love both The Church and The Sect, they're certainly flawed but I find them endlesly re-watchable.

I love THE CHURCH aaaand.... THE SECT is okay (Herbert Lom definitely helps things a bit). Shame about THE CHURCH being an upscale, but yes, Code Red is working on both of these.

Anyone notice how the "english language" option button disappeared on amazon.co.jp (or at the least I can't find it anymore)?
