Default Unpopular Theater Experiences (The Drive-In).

The Drive-In... Sitting in the car... With the speaker attached to the window watching the big screen... Making a food run to the food stand.

Any of you ever go to one?? If so what did you think??

Should they make comeback.. What say you??

I used to pretty much live at the drive in once I started driving.

It was dirt cheap, you got 2 movies for less than the price of one, you could take you own food in, there was no annoying ushers and you couldn't hear the obnoxious people around you.

[Show spoiler]You could get laid while watching a movie....

They were especially great once they brought in the cord that connected to your ariel so you could play the sound through your car stereo.

There was one that started in Scarborough last year. Personally, I don't see the point when 95% of the films they show you can watch for free on TV in the comfort of your own home anyway.

I remember when I went with my friend there was a double feature.

On one screen there was Batman, and on the one behind us there was Gremlins.

You couldn't do that 20 years ago.....

Just like the cinema, it's the experience the movie is just an added bonus.

You still can. Couch + 60" or bigger TV = nasty time.

I personally hate drive-ins. The screen is far away, picture quality is blah, the sound is blah. Comfortable movie theatre seat > car seat for 2 hours. I need a gigantic screen, stadium seating, kick-ass sound, etc.

I've never been to a double feature though. My local drive-in is only open during the summer and have one movie playing about 9:30pm ish (when it starts to get dark). The audio can also be played in the car via FM radio instead of the tiny small speakers.

The worst thing I remember though (not sure if it's changed since they upgraded to digital though, it's been awhile since I went) was the projector was at ground level and right beside the concession building so every time someone walked by, you could see their shadows up on the screen.

I have a drive-in theater very close to my house. So close that I would walk there...if it weren't a drive-in. I live in Texas and it operates year-round. I actually went 6 times in 2015. My car is reasonably comfortable and I always try to get there early for prime positioning. The sound now plays through the car radio and each screen has a dedicated frequency.

As for shadow issues, I can see how those would be annoying, but the screens at my drive-in are elevated probably 12 feet or so, and not right next to the concession building so I haven't had issues with that.

The main draw is probably price. I'm sure it varies from place to place, by here, you get a double feature for $8. I'm always on the lookout for a great pairing.

I like them. The only thing I don't like are the a-holes that decide to turn their car back on every 20 minutes because they're afraid the battery in it is going to die.

That isn't true. I have one of the longest running drive ins in the country near me and they play only new movies. Not sure where you got the idea they play older stuff from. There is another one 45 minutes away and they play new stuff too.

The one near me plays everything as a double feature. Well they did in the past, but this year they added a second screen and now play 4 movies a night. They play one brand new release and 1 that is a week or 2 old. Pretty damn nice place and great prices.

There is a stigma to drive ins, but most haven't even been to one. Considering the country only has just over 300 drive ins total. I personally love it as long as the weather is beautiful.

I've never been to one but I'd love to try it if for nothing else than the experience. I'm going to have to go one day.

There's the ski view drive in about 30 minutes from me. I've been there a couple times. You got to play the sound through an fm radio. It's great because they always play new releases as a double feature. I think I went and seen Iron Man 3 with Man of Steel and Transformers age of extinction with something else. I like to bring a small boombox radio and fold out chairs and watch the first movie, then watch the second movie in my car. Depends what's playing with it, but if it's nice out I was thinking about seeing Batman vs Superman or X MEN there this year.

Drive-Ins sound perfect to me. No dealing with other people harassing you during the movie and you can just sit in your car and relax. Too bad they're a thing of the past out here.

We've got one 10 minutes down the road. I've been meaning to make it over there for 3 years. I think it's $7 for 2 movies. They usually play movies the week after they come out in theaters.

They're hardly ********* for trying to prevent themselves from being stranded in the drive-in cinema.

.
The drive-in cinema in Scarborough shows mainly films that are endlessly repeated on TV alongside some more recent releases.

That one would be more the exception than the rule. Don't write off drive ins based on that one. If you get a chance to go to one showing new releases go for it.

There's still the other problem of how much of a car's battery it uses. I'd rather not be stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Is that really a problem? How crap is your battery? If your battery can't do a 2 hour movie with just the radio you need to replace it. A car battery can easily do one movie than in the intermission between movies you turn the car on and the alternator will recharge it. Seriously if this was a legit issue nobody would ever go to one.

Seriously. I have been to the drive in probably thousands of times in my life and never once had it happen to me, nor have I seen it ever happen to anyone else there.
