Unhappy 2016 will be a bad year for Canadian Blu-ray consumers!

Well, this is going to be one sad year for blu-ray consumers like myself in Canada. Our dollar is dropping and seems to be continuing to drop. Prices for blu-ray products on amazon.ca have spiked sharply.

Kino Titles have jumped to $35 and $40 dollars each. We are going to feel the crunch this year and online retailers don't seem to be willing to make any effort to induce us to shop.

I buy Kino, Shout an Criterion titles, as well as Warner Archive. Buying from the states just feels like being punished just because we live above the borderline.

I am hoping that someone out there can point me in the direction of some online retailers who have decent prices on products. Right now, the futuer seems grim indeed. Retailers better be willing to make some kind of compromise or blu-ray sales will continue to slump.

With the cost of everything from gasoline to groceries, how many will even consider going to 4K UHD blu-ray discs?

As a gamer the Blu-ray market has been a relief in comparison. Already at a $20 increase to games and can see another increase coming. Blu-ray on the other hand short of the cost of imports hasn't really changed. Actually stuff like Criterion have decreased in price. Used to be looking at $40-$45 for them in HMV and not much better on Amazon. Since last year HMV seem to sell most of them for $29.99.

Buy when the price drops instead of right away, problem solved.

Well, the currency is close to bottoming out, so it *should* start getting better later this year.

I am confused as to why you think retailers should eat the exchange rate? Just as your costs have gone up so have the retailers as consumers we pay more... I think the crumby part is the delayed correction of pricing when dollar inevitably strengthens, but that is a different complaint

You can buy all of the KL Studio Classics titles for $19.99 each in-store at HMV. They once had them on for 2 for $30 - maybe that will happen again. Amazon.ca sometimes has sales on those titles too - I got some for around $12 each only a few months ago.

Ah yes I forgot about that sale. I'll have to check out my local hmv as well, Kino puts out some good titles

The days of the $84.99 game are starting to appear: http://www.amazon.ca/Nights-of-Azure...705328&sr=1-10

I know it's a fairly niche game, but it is $59.99 in the US and is currently retailing for $84.99 CDN.

A forecaster just predicted we see a $0.59 loonie later this year... it's low but it looks like it will probably go lower. Whether that be $0.65, $0.60 or perhaps even lower. Only time will tell.

Yes, but like Amazon, Cineplex, and HMV, their prices have gone up for the 2016 Criterions. Zeusonline is still best at $35.xx, but in 2015 they were ~28.xx.

I see quite a few for $28.xx, though!

So look up Lady Snowblood, The Graduate, The American Friennd, etc., as in the Criterions released or to be released in 2016, and the prices have gone up.

All upcoming Criterion releases will be higher priced then last years. The cost has gone up 10-15% per title, that's why the price increase.

Because of the dollar, I've been spending less as the costs of living have gone up. What else can we do, really? We just have to be wiser with our money.

Don't know about the others, but every once in a while Kino Lorber's blu-ray prices will drop on Amazon.ca. Got a bunch of titles from them during one of their sales. Averaged out to about $12 per release. Even with the dollar dropping, I honestly haven't seen an increase in prices. If anything, I've been finding titles cheaper. Guess it just depends on what you're looking for, when to look for it, and where you're looking.
