just check the watts, make shure you've got HDMI, and definately get 7.1.

Thats what im doing in January. ive got a guy that works at "Audio/Video 2001" who can get me a nice HDMI 7.1 receiver for 399.00. Retail was somthing retarded like 899.00. Guess how i got my TV?

anyway. yeah. Or you could just ask wherever you're buying it from. People that work in the electronics tend to know a bit about stuff like that.

(PS. My 100th post! Yay! "

I'm helping my dad get a new receiver. Are there any in the $300-$400 price range that can do PCM 5.1 with HDMI 1.3?

Think you also want to have True HD and DTS-MA decoding on the receiver as well.

I own the 3808ci, the Internet Radio + Enhancer HD is awesome for 128kbps stream, better quality than radio actually. And the support for FLAC is great, i use a 120go External IDE drive connected to the back USB port to play all my CD collection loselessly...

I'll second the Denon 3808ci - a great receiver, but it does have a somewhat steep learning curve. Be prepared to spend some time with the manual to learn this receivers capabilities. I got this for the four hdmi inputs and 7.1 decode everything capability. More stickers on the front of this puppy than I ever expected. Even connects to internet radio via ethernet.

anyone of these HDMI receivers will work. (the Sony STR-DG810 is only 5.1 PCM and the rest are 7.1 PCM ability)

Of course you may find these receivers elsewhere for a better price...but it will give you something to go by.

Check out the Marantz SR-7002, should be right around 1500 or even slightly less... IMHO, better sound but slightly less features than the Denon.

The Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH is just killer at $999.99.

Elite products are very nice.
Much better build quality than any Onkyo you can buy for that price.

For 1500 you even have enough left over for an all HD audio bitstreaming Blu player and be in audio bliss.

Here is a pro review.

I went with a Yamaha RX-V3800 recently. $1299 from J&R who is an authorized dealer and it features all of the new bells, whistles, and audio formats along with XM, Internet radio, playback from HTPCs / USB devices, an iPod dock port, etc. The sound quality is excellent and I couldn't be happier!

Great price for a great receiver, but I'm still tempted to wait for the TX-SR905 to come back in stock.

THX Ultra2 processing, Reon upscaling, separate toroidal transformer and you can bridge the main channels for Stereo listening to 220 Watts/channel. Neither the Pioneer, the Yammy, the Denon nor the Sony new HDMI 1.3 receivers do the bridging and I listen to quite a bit of Stereo SACD and CD music, so it's a feature I"m quite looking forward to.
