Default Movies i've never seen because.....

So what movies have you never seen and why?

To me, some movies I won't watch because the subject matter and themes don't interest me or because I refuse to watch on a principle of some point.

For some though, i actually gotta say it's simply because i never did get round to it or it's "old" and never got a chance to watch cause I stick around movies released closer to my own birth generation onwards.

Like Lawrence of Arabia, I've never got a memory of having watched it.heard great things, but never seen it. Similarly many other cult hits I've never seen in full. Can't remember seeing Pulp Fiction in full or some of other Tarantino movies.

Blade Runner I never watched until very recently either. Whilst thematically interesting and visually great looking to this day, I almost get why it wasn't quote a hit at the time.

So, any of you guys got that one movie you always been trying to watch but never get round to? Or maybe just flat out won't watch.

I haven't seen any of the Godfather movies, GoodFellas, Scarface or most crime movies for that matter. The subject never interested me.

I've never seen Jaws because I feel it's too old and wouldn't hold up.

It's a great film but the shark looks too fake that it almost makes it not hold up.

Older movies have fake special effects, but they covered for them better. Jaws has the production values of a Star Wars era movie, but a big fake shark.

Default Godfather

I like mafia films, 70's era films, and love Coppola movies, but I can never finish either Godfather 1 or 2. Tried several times to get into them. Just don't understand the universal praise or love for them. Acting is good but nothing else holds my attention. Just don't get it.

Those are usually my main reasons, too. I used to be a horror fan several years ago, but quit because it started affecting my thoughts and emotions for the worse. These days, the bulk of my collection is rated PG-13 or under. Here's some examples from my "never seen" category

The Godfather
Scarface
Casablanca
Singin' in the Rain
Bridge on the River Kwai
Apocalypse Now
Platoon
The Outlaw Josey Wales
Pale Rider

Generally speaking, I'm not the biggest fan of war films or Westerns, though some exceptions exist like Lord of the Rings and The Quick and the Dead. I like some musicals, most notably Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and the 2004 version of Phantom of the Opera.

As for films I'll never see, crass attempts at "comedy" are very high on that list, plus trashy films that glamorize sexual deviancy. I prefer movies that actually have a point beyond the surface, and provide more hope than despair.

I have never seen The Exorcist because I do not care to watch it... so I might watch it at some point.

I've seen the so-called "comedy" In & Out, and actually enjoyed it at one point. But after realizing the intent was actually opposite of my assumption, I left it behind. I've also never seen Brokeback Mountain, nor do I intend to.

Natural Born Killers have tried to watch it but quit after 15 or so minutes in. It glorifies killing like its a fun thing to do or something. Just don't sit well for me.
Grew up watching westerns and looked up to actors portraying cowboys like Eastwood, The Duke, and Bronson. That's why I won't watch Brokeback Mountain.

You don't like movies with a happy and lighthearted relationship? They can't all be Blue Valentine.

Sorry, but if you quit NBK 15 minutes in then you are hardly in a position to comment on its thematic foundation. If you think that Oliver Stone made a film that glorifies psychopaths and needless killing -- given everything he's been through as a human being -- then you need help.

OK, as to the original question, I can't think of a genre or sub-genre of film that I actively avoid. I'm not really a fan of "torture porn," I guess. I'm generally not a fan of animation -- which even a quick look at my collection would make pretty obvious. I did really like Frozen though.

Now, there are thousands and thousands of films that I've wanted to see but haven't gotten around to. But that's because there are so many hours in a day. And a lot of stuff isn't available, or at least wasn't until very recently (like Out 1).

But there certainly isn't anything I've actively avoided that I can think of off the top of my head. Well, ok, most Adam Sandler movies. But that's because they're mostly terrible.

And all of you avoiding Brokeback Mountain are seriously missing out. Not only is it a beautifully shot and photographed film -- Ang Lee and Rodrigo Pietro? Come on. But the cast all give excellent performances: Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Williams, Anne Hathaway ... Avoiding this movie is a mistake.

A SERIOUS mistake.

Oh god Blue Valentine, I keep the accidental buy for when I just want to be depressed.

It was accidental because I once saw the last half of it on TV and I bought the blu-ray thinking I was blind buying a Gosling movie only to find out it was the one film that murdered me. Glad I have it because it is a fantastic film but it is rarely going to be played.

Do know some about what Stone has been through. Sure he doesn't feel like killing is cool with what he went through in Vietnam. Have read about the film and listened to people talk about it. Just never has been one for me. To me it comes across like Scarface. Well acted a good script just don't like the way that lifestyle is portrayed in Scarface.

Not in the manner where it comes across as cool or fun to kill innocent people.

Not a big fan of war movies, even though I've seen plenty I generally don't go out of my way to watch them. Also not a huge fan of the sappy romance, especially if it's teen-centric. Other than those, I'll watch just about anything happily.

In terms of a specific movie -- for some reason I've never seen Ghostbusters (1 and 2). No real reason, haven't avoided it or anything, they both just kinda fell through the cracks (despite not belonging to either of the genres I mentioned AFAIK).

I've never seen any of The Godfather films all the way through. They are on my wish list, as it is a genre I enjoy.
