I own both the Criterion and the Eureka! blu-ray. I said it in another thread and I will repeat myself here.

Though, the number of extras may be about the same, I feel that Eureka! did it first and slightly better (imo)! The only "real" extras that Criterion offers are the interviews with Hsu Feng and Shih Chun. Everything else is ported over from the Eureka! release, though re-arranged. So, instead of getting Tony Rayns audio commentary, Criterion offers up an video interview with him. He pretty much says the same thing. There is an interview with Ang Lee that really serves no purpose (imo). Plus, Eureka! have the 36-page booklet with King Hu interview and the original story that the movie was based on. Both releases have the Cannes Film Festival statement by King Hu. |
