Interesting one here. I found a 3D trailer download online for this in a less reputable area of the internet, and was wondering if it was real (the place I found it usually doesn't have fake stuff).

EDIT: The trailer does indeed seem to be in real 3D!

I couldn't find anything about 3D under its English name, but that makes a bit of sense because I believe it was released first in the UK in 2022 straight to Sky Digital with a simultaneous release in cinemas, which I'm assuming was flat. The wide release appears to be February 2023 though.

This is a joint German/UK production, and if you search its german title ('Maurice der Kater') and 3D you do find some early cinema listings in Germany which claim it will be in 2D and 3D!

Interestingly, it's being released in Germany by Constantin films, which, if they're still doing their 2D+3D on one disc like they did for Monster Hunter, means we have a chance this one will even come to 3D bluray!

The movie already has good reviews, with 81% from critics on RT, and a solid looking voice cast including Hugh Laurie and Emilia Clarke.

This is not confirmed, so take this with a pinch of salt for now, but if I'm right about this we might end up getting a surprise 3D blu-ray release this year!

The trailer/preview I watched featured her character opening the story and her voice acting was great.

3D was medium+ depth from what I saw. 1.85:1 so a nice full screen image which I think is the best choice for animated movies in 3D.

There's definitely 3D listings for this movie in Germany as expected. Shame there aren't any German members here to report on the cinematic 3D!

Fingers triple crossed Constantin films gives this a 3D bluray. I might see if they have an email I can send to encourage them to do so!

Hugely disappointing update. This isn't being distributed on home video by the 3D supporting Constantin in Germany, it's being distributed by some small company called EuroVideo, who have elected to release it in 2D only.

You can see an unhappy german 3D enthusiast lamenting this in the reviews of the amazon listing. Very disappointing that in 2023 it's common for a movie to get a 3D version made, only show in one country, then disappear onto a studio hard drive to collect dust forever. Infuriating. If this company had any brains, they would have released it on 3D bluray and then made bank from all the imports. Their loss.

it was released flat in theaters last month in NA, it bombed big. it also looked bad imo, don't think 3D would've saved it.

It has positive reviews from both critics and audience on RT and the 5 minute preview 3D clip I found was fun. Personally I’m very disappointed at this news.

This really needs to be done for every 2D-only release of a 3D movie.

Well, it didn't get shown in 3D and it seems there will be no 3D blu-ray, but the movie is so much fun that I still enjoy it a lot either way.

I'm very disappointed about that too. Even more so because Eurovideo is planning a pointless fake 3D Blu-ray release.
