TC Entertainment released the Adrian Lyne film Jacob's Ladder (1990) on Blu-ray in Japan in November 2014.

I am planning to view the disc shortly, but here are some quick comments:

All the extras from the US Blu-ray are present and accounted for, with optional Japanese subtitles where necessary. TC Entertainment have also included a booklet, and the Japanese trailer for the film.

The English: Dolby Digital 2.0 track is the audio commentary, while the two Japanese audio tracks are dubs.

The spec appears quite a lot better than the US (and likely poor UK version). Anyone got screencaps?

Are you sure about the video bitrate? That is very high for a minor title.

DVDBeaver (link below) did a review on the Lions Gate disc (released in Aug 2015?) and gave the BluRay a "solid" recommendation.
This Japanese edition was released in 2014 but has larger disc size than the Lions Gate disc (42.9 GB vs 24.5 GB)
The Japanese version has 3 more tracks but that should not double the disc size, should it?

I love this film and naturally the Lionsgate bd is garbage. Is the picture quality better on the Japanese disc?

Th biggest question is : will this drop to less than ¥2,000?
At ¥3,000 this is just too expensive for a non-steelbook

I agree. It would run me over $30 in the U.S. This film has a very unique, dark, grainy, 90's look to it. Would the increased bitrate really be noticeable? I think Jacobs Ladder's real strength lies in the audio. The actors voices/performances, the angels, the demons, the soundtrack, Sonny Boy, etc. It's a very powerful and vastly underrated movie.

I really want to take a chance, but I just took a blind leap of faith for two versions of Bitter Moon (Polanski) from Spain and Italy. My current Japanese Blu-ray is a dreadful 1080i upscale. For those that love the film as much as I do, I'm sure 4K remaster will be announced by Criterion since I splurged on three versions of the film.
