Happy for these SC re-releases and a new world cinema one ; glad that I held off buying The Deer Hunter (love that digibook though but better encoded ones are always welcome) and The Piano but I'd still buy that Merianbad digibook : I'd guess those two French films will be on Vintage world cinema line.
As for The Piano,it will be a collectors edition as per this article but not sure if this will be a new restoration - Quote:

Since they produced a restored DCP version for the theatrical re-release it would be surprising and bad judgement that they don't use it.

Have you had a chance to take a look at the disc yet? In regards to the back cover, it seems like Studio Canal rarely publishes their back covers on Amazon prior to release... but maybe that's just the ones I've looked at.

I'm watching this now, about just over an hour into it. It looks pretty incredible to me. Very sharp picture. I don't own any of the previous editions, so I cant do a direct comparison, but i'm very pleased with it.

I received my copy today. I don't have the previous UK release. But judging by the caps at caps-a-holic, it's likely the same transfer. Looks pretty solid though to me, but there's definitely some noise reduction/grain management. Still much better than the US release.

Here's some comparisons of the 25th Anniversary disc vs '12 German release. Looks to be the same transfer on all the StudioCanal releases;

It was more to confirm that if you had the older UK release, you could stick with that (ie. no new remaster for the anniversary).
But if you were buying today or upgrading it's a nice set. Over the old release you get 'The Piano at 25' featurette, soundtrack CD, booklet & poster. |

There's a long interview on the older disc that's not on the new one, so I think I'm gonna keep it. I'll get the new edition on the cheap at some point but since it's not a new master I'm less interested than I was at first, so am just really in it for the soundtrack and other bits. Good thing I didn't flog my old disc for £6-odd (that's what I'd had it listed at for a few months now, and nobody seems to want it).

Resurrecting an old thread here, but that DVD release had an additional Michael Nyman interview that runs 49 minutes that was dropped from the first Blu-ray. So the new Blu-ray plus DVD is the ideal combination - although in terms of value an eBay seller does have the old release for £4.99.
