Default Movies XML File Lists

If this thread that I am starting goes against this site rules, then a Mod can go on and delete this. I just figured it would save on people from making new threads asking how to use XMLs and where they could get the XML file.

Since people have been asking what XML files are and how to use them as well as where they could get the file. So, I decided to go ahead and make thread where people can get thee XML info and how they work.

An XML file is a file that are found on a Digital Copy Disc that iTunes uses for validation purposes for redeeming digital copies of select movies. The XML file has the info iTunes needs to find to right movie of a certain movie in their database. When someone redeems a digital copy file with just the XML, you will get an error message after redemption when it attempts to transfer the movie to your PC. This message is expected, and you will be able to find the movie in your iCloud storage for download or stream (on most digital copies).

The steps of making the XML file with the XML info:

1) Copy and Paste the XML info (provided in this thread) to Wordpad or Notepad. Also, if you copy and paste from the spreadsheet that Zu Nim provided the link to, check to see if these " " are at the beginning and end of the info. If they are, then delete those quotation marks.
2) Save the file with this name: iTunesInfo.xml as an Open Document Text. (Really it shouldn't matter what option you choose to save the file as, since you are basically changing the way it is saved when you have the'.xml' at the end of the file name.) Also, you might get an error message the document being saved as a text only doc, but this is normal and just click yes.
3) Move the newly made XML file to an empty USB/Flash drive.
4) Remove the USB drive from the PC, and open iTunes, if not already open.
5) Re-insert the USB into the PC

Now, iTunes should automatically sense the file and open a special redemption page for the specific movie in iTunes.

Here is a link that was created and maintained by dtPUNISHER that has all the XML info of each movie that requires disc/XML to redeem the iTunes digital copy. Also, if you are having trouble copying & pasting the XML info due to getting quotation marks, try viewing the spreadsheet as a list instead of normal. This way will allow you to highlight the info instead of clicking the box and copying the XML info that way:

iTunes XML spreadsheet

Info was provided by dtPUNISHER to sites where on could go to get replacement codes on titles where the DC code has expired. Also, Sony seems to be the one studio that doesn't update expired codes.

The studios that you can ask to get them updated are

Paramount

Great stuff unsung!
I have made a backup of all the XML files so far, and will make a weekly backup from here on in and maybe post to a blog I have.
I told the trading section about the thread, hopefully they see it and help out by giving you codes to your inbox or by posting here.

To someone in the know...Does an XML file work with any country? Or is there a different XML file for each region?

I don't think it is country specific. I gave someone the XML file of a movie that came from a US bd combo and I believe the person was trying to redeem a UK code. I assume it would have been a UK code since he was from the UK.

There's a perfectly good Google doc out there with all the XMLs. It's not that hard to find...

Sorry to be a pain, but I'm new to the XML world. I'm following all of the directions, but iTunes never accesses the flash drive. Am I doing something wrong?

The only thing I can think of is that I do not have the option in Wordpad to save the file as an Open Word Document... My only options are:

Rich Text Format
Office Open XML Document
Open Document Text
Text Document
Text Document - MSDOS Format
Unicode Text Document

Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't know why I said Open Word Document, meant to say just Open Document Text. Really, it shouldn't really matter which option you choose since when the file is saved with the '.xml' in its name it changes how it is being saved. Just be sure to save the file with this name 'iTunesInfo.xml' and not with the usual '.txt' or '.docx' or '.rif' at the end of its name when selecting any of those options. So, you don't want it look like this 'iTunesInfo.xml.txt' since that will still save it a text document as selected.

If for some reason that iTunes doesn't recognize the USB after re-inserting it into the PC, then while viewing your library, not the iTunes store, look under your devices to see if you see something showing that there is a disc in the drive, it will say the name of the movie you're looking to redeem. If it doesn't show try removing the drive again for 5 seconds and then re-insert it.

@ Chiefy, sorry about including District 9 in the list. I was just copying everything that I had on hand into the post without thinking about what codes were still valid and what had expired. Also, I put Inglorious Basterds in the list and code that came with the Universal 100th Anniversary expired on 12/31/12 and I am unable to redeem my code for it. Anyways I added expired next to the District 9 entry in the list.

I have been trying this for over a week with no such luck. I have used different USB's, different codes, even different computers, I've trouble shot the hell out of it. I'm not sure if it's because I'm using a Mac but it will not work AT ALL

I just tried The Wolverine on Windows 8. My daughter destroyed the dvd disc before i used the code. Make sure its exactly like posted. I had an extra space at the end of the last line and it didn't recognize it. I deleted it and it worked..

Thank you guys for this thread!

YES!!! That did it! Thanks everyone for taking the time to help out. I was copying and pasting straight from the spreadsheet so generously supplied by Zu Nim, and when I looked closely, there were extra quotation marks all over the place. Went carefully through it and got rid of them, BAM, worked like a charm. Thank you so much again.

Hey, what program are you using to create the XML file? Is the equivalent to a notepad/wordpad on PC or is just the Word? If it is the former, try downloading the notepad for Mac and then follow the steps again. If that doesn't work you may need to create iso files to get it to work.

I've been using TextEdit which is the same as Notepad on a PC and even tried MS Word

I finally got it to work. When you use TextEdit it changes it to a .rft but I used MS Word and started off with a .txt and then changed it to a .xml. I'm thinking you have to start off with the .txt and not the .rft as it must change something that iTunes doesn't like. I tried another code I've tried before and it works fine started with the .txt
