Meta is launching its Movie Mate technology with the screening, allowing moviegoers to second screen during the film to access exclusive content, trivia and behind-the-scenes info in real-time.

Looks like Hollywood is finally starting to brainstorm on how to keep movie theaters alive again. Which everyone kept warning them about, but they just kept putting themselves into a hole on their own.

Yeah this is going to be interesting as they are way to reactionary.

Arcades use to be a thing in theaters. Now, not anymore. I don't know what happened.

At home consoles and computers killed arcades.

There is still Dave and Busters. Yet those are all timed based.

My theaters still have the standard Racing Game, Light Gun Game and Ticket/Trinket machines.

Usage on phones is not gonna help anything.

Yeah but it was just nice having a "wait and chill" area, you know. But I guess since assigned seating is now everywhere, there is no need to it.

A former theater here had an arcade above it. Looked like Flynns from Tron.

Crazy right? They just repursue and take things away. I was at the Heinz History Center recently. They have the old Gimbles Sign.

They even have one of the old racer cars from Kennywood.

I felt old because I saw all of these things at their original locations.

My buddy loves Kennywood. He buys season passes every year to Adventureland and also Splish Splash and their whole family of parks, and Kennywood is under their umbrella, so, he takes his family there every summer. I actually think he prefers Knoebels, but, anyway, he's a big fan of both.

Sorry for the OT talk. No one here cares about my friend Steve or his family LOL

The Regal Cinemas in my area that are newly remodeled all added large game rooms/arcades. Here's an example of one:

I went to Kennywood for the first time in like 30 years, last year. It did not go well. I felt beat up after riding a few rides.

Looks like what they have at Dave and Busters and Chuck E Cheese.
There was an arcade downtown that used to have Metal Slug and games like that. They removed those and went with the games like in the video.

If this goes well with interactive phone apps during the movie, maybe they'll allow audiences to bring in their own pet dogs, cats, birds, fish, TVs, video game consoles and desks to get office work done while watching a movie in the background in the movie theater...

Per a press release, “Movie Mate is only available to moviegoers who are in a theater, and works by DM’ing the Instagram account @M3GAN account to start the experience. The entire experience is designed to leverage Meta’s capabilities to augment and uplevel the ‘second screen’ viewing experience aimed at generating excitement ahead of the release of ‘M3GAN 2.0’ on June 27.”
There needs to be an asterick* symbol for the show times that allow people to use phones during a movie. I would avoid those show times. Nothing worse in a dark movie theater than bright little screens in one's side view while trying to be immersed in a good movie.

I miss the days in the 80’s when I could go to a theater in Westwood or Marina Del Rey here in California when there was an arcade just around the corner filled with dozens of video games. I used to drop 5 bucks or more on the games either before or after the movie.

This second screening idea is nuts. It would have to be in it’s own dedicated theater in the multiplex so the rest of us don’t have to bother with this kind of crap.
