Default Tomorrow (1972) starring Robert Duvall

Quote:
B2MP, Inc. to release Blu-ray/DVD combo of TOMORROW with Robert Duvall

B2MP, Inc. is excited to announce its upcoming release of a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack of Tomorrow starring Robert Duvall. This title will be sold exclusively on the B2MP website, http://b2mp.net and will not be available at retail outlets. This marks the first release of the film on Blu-ray and the return to DVD of the film after a several year absence.

Often cited as one of his favorite performances, Robert Duvall stars as Jackson Fentry, a solitary man and sawmill caretaker, who meets and eventually falls in love with an abandoned pregnant woman.

Academy Award ™ winner Horton Foote (“To Kill a Mockingbird”, “Tender Mercies”) wrote the screenplay based on his stage adaptation of a short story by William Faulkner. Directed by Joseph Anthony (“The Matchmaker”, “The Rainmaker”), and shot in beautiful black and white to convey the era in which it takes place, the film is a haunting, emotional tale about a man’s capacity for love.

From the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, and newly transferred to high definition, the film will be presented in 16X9 1080p on the Blu-ray with 24 bit 48 kHz LPCM 2.0 mono audio. The DVD will feature DTS 2.0 mono audio. Retail price is $29.98 and the discs will ship in late April.

Coming over the next few months will be a Native American silent film Blu-ray set, which will include The Last of the Mohicans and The Silent Enemy in high definition and The Vanishing American in standard definition, and a Blu-ray/DVD combo of Around the World With Orson Welles: The Complete Series, including the previously lost episode, Revisiting Vienna, aka The Third Man Returns To Vienna.

Just placed my order for Tomorrow and The Puppetoon Movie. I had no idea these were out on Blu-ray.

Tomorrow, Tender Mercies, and The Great Santini are my three favorite Duvall performances, all really good films, so I am happy the first one is being released on high-def (still waiting on Bruce Beresford's Tender Mercies and Lewis Carlino's The Great Santini, hopefully both will be upgraded soon). Also, I was not aware of B2MP until reading this, so thanks for bumping this thread.

Thanks for the heads up OP!

It's a very hefty price to pay, but I already bought The Puppetoon Movie. Being that it's a limited edition, I couldn't let the opportunity pass by. I had never heard of B2MP before that purchase. It looks like they have some very good/worthwhile titles in their catalog.

I never heard of Tomorrow, but it sure looks like my kind of movie. Plus I think Robert Duvall is awesome! (Love Tender Mercies too ... and have been anxiously waiting for the bluray to come out).

EDIT: Looked at a few reviews ... Ordered!

I hope that means mine is arriving tomorrow since I ordered it on the 12th. The way my latest orders have been going, if it gets here by the end of the week, I'd consider it lightning fast delivery.

Also ... I remembered another favorite Robert Duvall performance (along with Richard Harris, Shirley MacLaine and Sandra Bullock) that I'd love to see on bluray ... Wrestling Ernest Hemingway.

Haven't seen that one but would be interested. A very good lineup of actors.

Hope you get your copy "tomorrow" (heh heh).

Wish we could get Tender Mercies and The Great Santini soon. I have a real soft spot for both of these films. Incidentally, I read a blurb today that Criterion's upcoming The Big Chill had exteriors filmed in the same South Carolina town as The Great Santini. In fact, the same house is used in both movies.

Well, I don't want to sidetrack this thread too much, but Wrestling Ernest Hemingway is in a way related to Tomorrow because of Robert Duvall's strong performance in a similarly under-appreciated film (... like Tomorrow seems to be). Here are links to the trailer and to a wonderful review of the movie: (It's a shame that Sandra Bullock isn't featured in either video as she's great playing the part of a waitress that Robert Duvall's character is very fond of. I believe this was made before Sandra Bullock was famous [... made in 1993]). EDIT: I take back that last comment. Ms. Bullock *is* briefly featured in the review link.

Trailer (2+ minutes):

Review (10+ minutes):

If you do a Google search, most reviews seem to glow about this little film.
(A plea to B2MP, TT, Criterion, anyone ... please don't let this film be forgotten).

As for The Great Santini, I know it has a great history and is much respected, but I've never seen it myself. If it ever came out on bluray, I'd probably pick it up just to see Robert Duvall perform. Hey here's a thought ... the 4 movies we're talking about here, would make a great Robert Duvall "almost forgotten treasures" box set. Maybe throw in The Apostle too.

Not yesterday, but Tomorrow arrived today.

(Since I live somewhat in the boonies, I still consider it lightning fast delivery).

I just placed an order for Tomorrow. This is a blind buy, but the Faulkner connection reeled me in.

This is a blind buy for me too. I'm hoping I get the same kind of reaction as when I watched Rapture for the first time, which was another blind buy of another lesser known film (... lesser known to me anyway).

Rapture was a glorious blind buy for me as well. Actually, I would be willing to bet that Rapture was a blind buy for 99% of the people who purchased it.

I have a gut feeling that I will enjoy Tomorrow, and my gut feelings are usually correct.

My copy of Tomorrow arrived in the mail today. The Blu-ray disc had become detached from the holder and was moving around in the case, but it appears unscratched. I'm looking forward to checking this one out soon.

Watched this tonight. This was the first time I had seen it all the way through; I knew it was a good, well-reviewed movie, and the parts of it I had seen of Robert Duvall were a masterclass in acting, but until tonight I had no real idea just how extraordinary this is. One of the most profoundly moving films I have ever seen. Absolutely stellar performances from Robert Duvall and Olga Bellin, and a testament to the strength of a simple man and his unbound capacity to love. Also a hard look at the life of the poor in the in the rural South in the early 20th Century. Anyone watching this will not soon forget it.

Anyone know how to edit the database entry to include the "add to favorites" selection? It currently doesn't exist.

Olga Bellin is the real star in this one, though I think producers used Duvall's name to heavily promote it. She gives a performance that would have won an Oscar for a more well-known actress.

The story itself is devastating and tragic, dripping in pathos. It's an easy recommendation to make for fans of Duvall or Southern drama.

The transfer is okay. The Blu-ray is not a revelatory improvement and has minor compression issues, but certainly gets the job done.

I was quite impressed by this film when I rented it several years ago. I might revisit it on BD if I can find a reasonable price. There's a review up at DVD Beaver.

It's hard to believe that this film can be so obscure. To me, Robert Duvall's character in Tender Mercies seems similar to his role in this movie. Both great!
