The above statements annoy me because I can't wrap my mind around the idea that a "good" film deserves a backhanded compliment simply because it's inferior to a "great" film. Sure there's more to savor in the later, but the former has to have a certain amount of entertainment value in it for someone to say they liked it, right? I always felt that legitimately great films (the ones that entrance the senses and feel like tailor made gifts to your sensibilities) are best appreciated when encountered sporadically.
