Unfortunately the theatrical release is so limited - just one late night show at a cinema an hour away from me tonight only that finishes after the trains and buses stop running - there's no way I could get back without blowing a small fortune on a taxi.
Knowing Manga, the BD will probably be vanilla, so I may just go for the Australian disc that's just come out for the extras. |

No need to wait 4 months then get ordering from Australia or the US if you are multiregion.

No but I don't see there being a big demand for a film that had a one day cinema release that the vast majority of people didn't know about, it will be aimed at a very niche market and a lot of people that wanted it would have given up waiting months ago when it became available on Blu-ray in other countries.
I would be the first to eat my words if they started releasing Godzilla films on BD in the UK but I wouldn't get your hopes up. |

In the past the problem hasn't been sales, it's been the truly absurd sums that Toho wanted for UK rights to the films. After years of selling them off at bargain basement prices to American companies (some of them for under a thousand dollars!) they seemed to go off in the other direction and ask impossibly high advances. When the 1998 film came out they wanted six figures for VHS rights to classic Godzilla titles, though Manga did manage to get a couple of the Heisa era films (Mothra and Ghidorah) out of them for considerably less in 1994.

I wonder what kind of job Manga will do with this. I don't mind waiting for domestic releases if they're going to be good, but it'd be a shame to wait all that extra time only for a flawed product.
It's a shame there's such a huge gap between the US/AUS releases and ours, it's only going to mean plenty of people importing (and I don't really blame them given that size gap), thus harming domestic sales. I suppose we should just be grateful it's getting a blu-ray release here at all, seeing as things like The Wailing, The Tiger and The Man from Nowhere were only shoved out on DVD only. |

I've already imported the excellent Australian release so I doubt I'll be buying this one too unless Manga do something amazing with it. Glad it's coming out here though, it'll be nice to see a UK Blu Ray release of an actual Toho Godzilla film at last.* Hopefully the first of many!
*Yeah I know King Kong vs. Godzilla is available on Blu here but it's the edited and dubbed USA version. |

However I think this is one release people should buy the UK edition, if only to encourage further UK Godzilla releases. |
