Default Stand Up Comedy dvd's

I looked and didn't see anything on this topic, if I missed something somewhere, sorry.

I'm a huge stand up fan and just watched Jeff Dunham's Spark of Insanity the other day for the 1st time and had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard.

What I want to know, what are some awesome stand up routines that are available on dvd??

I currently have the Jeff Foxworthy's, Ron Whites, & what not, I'm looking for someone that is not well known but really funny.

add another vote for jim gaffigan-beyond the pale, he is rediculously funny
also, anything chris rock has out, and look for dmitri martin-i think the name of his special is "person"? you also gotta give some of the female comics their due, check out lisa lampinelli and kathleen madigan

Pick up Eddie Murphy's Delirious. That DVD is a must have for any comedy fan! I think Raw is available too and that's also a good one. If you like Bill Hicks, there is a 2 disk set for him called Live. Eddie Izzard's also got some decent ones (Glorious, Dress to Kill).

Eddie Izzard - Dressed to Kill
My favorite of all the stand up movies I have seen.

Dimitri Martin
I forgot the name of the show but he's the guy who uses a giant notepad on stage.

George Carlin- You Are All Diseased. His riff on god in this one is one of the funniest things I've ever heard.

Patton Oswalt- No Reason To Complain. Short but sweet.

David Cross- Let America Laugh. A little road trip, a little standup, made me laugh.

But judging by the comics you listed I doubt you would be interested by any of these guys. They are sick individuals just like me.

if it's funny, i don't care who they are, what they look like, or what is or isn't between their legs.

I saw Ron White last year here in town and his opening act, Alex Reymundo, was hilarious. I wanna pick up his "One Funny Hic-Spanic" movie too.

Dmitri Martin is hilarious. Was it MadTV he was on??? His stand-up stuff is really funny.

As another poster mentioned, Russell Peters is hilarious as well. He's all over youtube

Robin Williams: Live on Broadway is fall off your couch funny.

Eddie Murphy: Delirious is much better than Raw in my opinion.

Any of the Eddie Izzard that's available, the George Carlin pack that just came out (and his final standup that's being released on blu iirc).

Someone I really like but don't hear much about from anyone else is Todd Barry. he's genius but as far as I know has no DVDs, only cds.

Man this thread was buried. Kinda sad that there's so little talk about it, but I understand. I've enjoyed stand up for a long time but have just started actually getting some just yesterday. Gotta say, this is long overdue. Nothing can compare to stand up for shear laffter. I skilled routine keeps building momentum the whole time, chuckling at first and then eventually making you laff so hard you can't breath. I love movies, but I think good stand up can be superior to it when it comes to pure comedy.

A couple of things I hope people can help me with. First, there are a lot of George Carlin shows to choose from. What are considered his classics, and are there any that should be avoided? Second, It seems that Chappelle's Killin them Softly is out of print. Is it worth it to look it up on ebay, and is there a CD option for this show that might be more offordible?

Thirdly, what do people here think of Margret Cho and Sabastion Maniscalco. Reviews on amazon seem pretty positive about them. Although Margret Cho's early stuff seems more widely liked than the her latter stuff. I pretty much like every style of comedy, cerebral and lowbrow, crass and family friendly.

Here's a list of Comedians I'm looking at right now;
Richard Pryor, Gabriel Iglesias, Daniel Tosh, Lewis Black, Jerry Seinfeld, George Carlin, Sam Kinison, Ricky Gervais, Robin Williams, Amazing Johnathon, Louis C.K., Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Jeff Dunham, Rodney Dangerfield, Sarah Silverman, Christopher Titus, and Demetri Martin.

My first oder has Eddie Murphy's Delirious, and Raw. Richard Pryor's Live in concert, Here and now, and Live on the Sunset Strip. Demetri Martin's Person, and Stand up comedian. Gabriel Iglesias's I'm not fat I'm Fluffy.

Gabriel and Demetri's stuff I've already seen, but I'm still looking forward to seeing again. Pryor I've seen snippets here and there but never a full routine, really looking forward to those. Just the small sample I've heard are hilarious. Eddie Murphy I'm going into blind, but I'm pretty sure I'll like it.

Eddie Murphy Delirious and Eddie Murphy Raw are 2 classics. I prefer Raw personally.

Dave Chappelle Killing Them Softly is another classic.

Robin Williams Live on Broadway is great but I wish they released A Night at the Met. I had it taped on Beta from HBO I think that aired it (you can get it on CD but some of the pieces were probably from a different evening, different pacings and such, and you need to see him doing his actions to what he's talking)

My favorite George Carlin is You Are All Diseased. There's a nice boxset on Amazon of all his HBO specials saved in my wishlist that I mean to get at some point.

I went to a Sinbad show a few years ago and he's pretty good too.

Jerry Seinfeld's I'm Telling You For The Last Time, while admittedly dated during certain bits, is pure gold.

Yeah, I hope Killing them Softly isn't too expensive, I haven't looked yet. Everyone seems to say it has to be seen though. Robin Williams is next on my list, probably starting with Live on Broadway. Robin was actually the cataylist for me looking into stand up. I started thinking I didn't have enough comedy movies, and went looking. Starting with some of my favorite actors, I got to Robin. He doesn't actually have that many great comedy movies. Pretty much just Good Morning Vietnam, The Birdcage, and Alladin. Well I thought, lets get some unfiltered Robin on stage. Of course that started an avalanche of comics I wanted to see. I already have 35 shows listed on my Amazon account. Only reason I didn't get some of his stuff was that I was hopeing to get some early stuff first and there wasn't any available. Made me want to look into it more before I started buying stuff. I'll probably end up getting that Met show on CD. I know Robin is a maniac on stage and that's part of his show, but at least I'll get to hear the stuff that put him on the map.

Yeah, that one's on my list. Haven't seen it but keep hearing that's Jerry's best. Absolutely loved his show, and if that show reflects his routine as well as it seems I'll be on the floor laffing.

Michael McIntyre's are by far the best stand-up routines of all time, especially Live & Laughing and Showtime. I doubt anyone will ever be as funny as him.
