Question to see if anyone has noticed anything or not....Do speakers systems begin to sound similar when they are properly EQ'd and room treatments cut our first reflections? How many of you know of speakers from different companies that sound notoriously similar?

Many Variables othera than equalizing, you forget cabinet and port resonance, driver control or mechanical damping, cabinet resonance, low end extension. Sure tonally should sound the same but in the end other variables are going to affect the sound.

My first real speakers in the early 70's were Pioneer. I don't remember the series, but the grills were different colors depending on the model. Next were AMT 1's with the Heil Air Motion Transformers, and for the last 35 years I have listened to DCM Time Windows. This is an interesting question, but I don't believe that any amount of set up would make them sound the same.

All music and movie soundtracks are not recorded at the same fidelity, that's where the audio varies in sound production and engineering that takes place in the studio. It depends on the audio specifications on that particular recording that you're listening to, which is something to considered as well. As people get older, or were born with a hearing impairment, some people may not be able to discern a significant difference in sound quality.

Just to generalize, speakers are comprised of the following: 1. Cabinet 2. Crossover 3. Drivers The build quality and performance capabilities of the above 3 will determine the final sound produced. Price becomes a sizeable factor when it comes to selecting speakers.......less than amplifiers, disc players, AVR's, pre-amps, and equalization. So to answer your first question I'd say no. As long as your room is treated and your electronics do their job well, a speaker upgrade will improve your system by the widest margin... Have a great weekend fellas!! ![]() Last edited by Krelldog1977; 05-28-2016 at 01:04 AM. |
