Default "Baldios" gets a limited BD edition

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-new...ed-set-release

Few years ago "UCHU SENSHI BALDIOS", one of the greatest mecha/Super Robot series ever conceived and produced (for me THE BEST), has finally got a BD release in Japan...

(they had already announced this in 2009)

Trust me, this was a groundbreaking and intense series which presented a sci-fi twist that NOBODY ever used before and after it --- very "Nolanesque" but on an epic and grandiose level.
Plus, the series was a genuine "bridge" between the Super Robots and Real Robots genres. It was the perfect hybrid.

Discotek Media just announced the BD release of the TV series for the North-American territory. Big news.

I don't know if they will even issue the 1981's movie which provided an end to the TV series. The TV series is comprised of 34 episodes, but only the following 1981's movie finished the story.

I'm guessing because a politician from California saves the human race.

UniSol GR77 communicates entirely in hyperbole.

Edit: also, if this thread is about "the greatest anime/mecha series ever conceived and realized," then we are witnessing some serious misspelling of "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam."

Because great time travel stories are shocking and epic.

1- IMHO Macross is better than Gundam when coming to Real Robots. You know the differences between Super Robots and Real Robots, right?

2- The original Gundam series is better than Z.

Circular logic: "it's awesome because it's awesome" is not a proper explanation.

Yes of course I do, I've been an anime fan for almost 20 years, I'm not an imbecile.

Incorrect. Zeta is the absolute peak of the entire franchise and always will be.

LOL, this sounds to me like a big hyperbole too.
It's not. The original series paved the way and it was the best. Macross refined it. Z just stole some elements of Macross. Still, it's a great series, I rewatched it one month ago.

But do you know Baldios? Have you seen it? Just wondering.

Too bad. Trust me, it's an epic and compelling sci-fi drama where the Super Robot is just a "symbol", not the centerpiece. The character development is astonishing.
"Baldios" is literally the bridge between Super Robots and Real Robots.

By the way, it was released in America under a different name, if memory serves me well.

We never got the show but according to ANN, the compilation movie had an English dub release as "Revenge of the Space Warriors."

Edit: I'm sorry, I have to debate this:

I don't really see how this means much of anything, since Mobile Suit Gundam is the first Real Robot anime and with a premiere that predates Space Warrior Baldios' by 14 months.

Well, summing it up:

The series was commissioned in 1979: 39 episodes.
Initially it wasn't a big success in Japan, so they just produced 34 episodes and then the project underwent an abrupt halt. No final 5 episodes. They haven't been realized at all.
Japanese people discovered the series, which was a "sleeper hit", and wanted an ending to be made.
So in 1981 Baldios got a feature animation movie which served as both a series summary and an ending. It was a hit.

I think at this point you should download the feature movie. "Baldios: The Movie".

EDIT:

Of course. Yes. I meant that Baldios was a hybrid. A bridge. A link.

So it's kind of like if Superman had a utility belt? Or if Gurren Lagann had a limited amount of ammunition for some weapon or something? The robot served as a symbol in that one too, although this obviously came first.

I just don't know if it being a real/super hybrid is exactly a good or bad thing...maybe it's just a different thing? Either way I looked up a couple of clips and it just doesn't look appealing to me. Maybe I'm totally wrong...I shall never knoooooooooow.

Baldios is about a great and tragic sci-fi story. That's the "hybrid" thing. It's true sci-fi. It's also about a "Super" Robot.

And I must add that the Super Robot is just the #1 in terms of beauty and design.

You said that Baldios was literally the bridge between super robots and real robots. Excuse me for taking that literally.

Everything you say in this thread is just hyperbolic word salad: none of it actually means anything.

Show looks too old for my taste. Can only see someone being intetested in this is if they grew up with the series. Just for the nostalgic factor. I'll stick with Gundam cause thats what I grew up with and it is still popular to this day.

Yeah, it was a bridge. Kinda of. It was a series centered upon a Super Robot, but it had some "Real Robot" quality plot-wise and sure as hell was aimed at a more adult audience, because it felt as a true sci-fi opera. Also, there was a ton of character development, trust me.

It's a great story, it's a great series. Just watch it.

Nostalgic factor? Lol, no.

Great series never age. Great stories are great and timeless, despite the production values may be a bit dated.

The first Gundam series is the best.

No nostalgic factor involved..... I cannot reveal any spoilers about the series, unfortunately.
