???

Your price range for two speakers is 5-8 thousand dollars? And you aren't into the "surround thing"?? WOW!

Hey...to each their own, but you just blew my mind with that one!

You can get 5 really good speakers and a subwoofer for 8 grand!!! I like the way the new monitor audio series sound. With your budget, you can probably get the gold series!

There just isn't any DVD player (or Blu player for that matter) worth $3800, especially if you only have two speakers!!! Have you heard uncompressed audio yet, it's pretty intense! I think it's a must, even if you only occasionally watch action movies.

It might not be worth 3800.00 but mcintosh has been around for over 50 years.. Ive been buying their products for almost 20 ...never had any problems..I should have gotten their preamp instead of krells kct...

If you can find a dealer, Von Schweikert are the best speakers I have ever heard. Period.

Of course speakers are VERY subjective so, it doesnt mean you will like them alot. *shrug*

I believe their VR4 SR falls right into that price range (8k/pair I believe). They have 1 model below those and the rest go up from there.

My VS main speakers are the VR4 genIII HSE. They retailed for 6k, but are discontinued now.

You can find excellent deals on VS speakers on audiogon.com. There is a pair of my speakers on there now for $3500 (odd color though)

What brands do your local dealers carry?

That's not surprising consider the high end level of electronics the OP is using. My personal favorite with those MACs would be B&W 803Ds at the top of his price range (list) but that's just me.

@ the OP: You really need to audition speakers for yourself at that price point. Find a few high end shops in your area and audition as many different speakers in your range as possible. It would be best to setup in home auditions if possible. There is no just substitute for actual listening. As alway good sound is subjective. The best speakers for your system are the ones that sound best to you.

The high end dealers here are really pushing the B&W's and Theil's
DJEFFRIES : I see you own mcintosh too ..
How do you like the B&W's ?

I heartily recommend you demo a pair of Martin Logans before you make any final decision. For $8K, you can easily pick up a pair of Monoliths.

Those Von Schweikert's are huge, expensive, and ugly as hell!!! Not something I would want to put in my living room. You can get something that sounds just as good, or very nearly for far less money and space.

the Klipsch reference and high-end heritage series speakers are very very very nice. they have been in the audio business since the '40s so they know what they are doing. check them out.

Please listen to them before you spout off. My VS will go up against speakers for twice the price and sound just as good.

They are ugly? Have you ever seen the speakers he has?

That's what I thought.

Move along.

I wonder if he cares what you would put in your living room?

All decent suggestions.

What kind of tweeter do you prefer?

Klipsch= horn tweeter (very bright)

B+W= also bright, but better imaging

VS= smoother top end

Some people like articulate, bright highs. Some prefer smoother, softer highs.

The midrange is what the human ear really responds to. That is wher VS comes alive. I sold B&W for a while and the midrange is nice, but until you get to the 20k+ pair, the midrange is a bit sterile IMO.

It is all subjective.

my speakers are big, but not ugly...
They have two silver dome tweeters ,4 midrange ,and a 12"passive subwoofer
this describes 1 speaker..
Ive had them: since 87 , they are hard to replace...
