Default The Musketeers, premiering in 2014 is a BBC Drama Production

Quote:
About the Show
Created by Adrian Hodges, The Musketeers is set on the streets of seventeenth century Paris, where law and order is more an idea than reality. More than King Louis XIII’s personal bodyguards, Athos, Aramis and Porthos stand resolutely for social justice, for honor, for valor, for love – and for the thrill of it. Luke Pasqualino (Skins, The Borgias) will star as D’Artagnan alongside Musketeers Tom Burke (Great Expectations, The Hour) as Athos, Santiago Cabrera (Merlin, Heroes) as Aramis and Howard Charles (Royal Shakespeare Company) as Porthos. Together they are a crack-team of highly trained soldiers. The Musketeers, premiering in 2014, is a BBC Drama Production for BBC One, co-produced by BBC America and BBC Worldwide.

Looks good - I love all these shows that have come out over the last 8-10 years (Rome, Borgia, Tudors, Camelot, Spartucus, Game of Thrones, Hell on Wheels, Copper, etc). Costume Dramas / Historical Fiction - Fantasy are my favorites. Looks like I can add this one to my watch list.

Would love to have HBO, Showtime, Starz put out a Robin Hood series along the lines of Rome or The Tudors.

BBC One has released a trailer for their upcoming ten episode drama series The Musketeers, which is set to premiere in early 2014.

Created by Adrian Hodges, The Musketeers is a new adaptation of the legendary tale of the three musketerrs. The series is set on the streets of seventeenth century Paris where law and order is more an idea than reality and follows the three Musketeers: Athos, Aramis and Porthos who are far more than King Louis XIII’s personal bodyguards. They stand resolutely for social justice, for honour, for valour, for love and for the thrill of it. The drama series is being produced by BBC Drama Productions in association with BBC Worldwide & BBC America and stars Luke Pasqualino (Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome), Tom Burke (Great Expectations), Santiago Cabrera (Merlin), Howard Charles, Peter Capaldi (The Hour), Tamla Kari (Cuckoo), Maimie McCoy (Loving Miss Hatto), and Hugo Speer (Bedlam).

I guess that after years of bastardization by US and French productions, it's only fair that our Brit neighbors have a go at it

I am still partial to the campy 1953 version with Bourvil
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046461/

And the tvseries from 1961
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055549/

Good question. BBC America just says "Coming in 2014". Atlantis started two months after the UK, and Ripper Street Season 2 is starting four months after the UK. BBCA also hasn't scheduled Season 2 of In the Flesh yet, but then the BBC in the UK hasn't either

I'm not expecting The Musketeers before April, and it'll more likely be not until the summer, but I hope I'm wrong.

A BBC America press release from January 11 listed The Musketeers as airing "Spring 2014," which means no premiere until at least March 20 if BBC America literally means spring.

Saturday nights at 9pm are booked from now until June (the rest of Atlantis S1, followed by Ripper Street S2 for 8 weeks and then Orphan Black S2 for 10 weeks), so I'm guessing The Musketeers will air Wednesdays at 9pm as part of Dramaville.

The four-part Fleming airs Wednesdays at 10pm beginning January 29, which technically means Wednesday, February 26 is available as a start date for The Musketeers (which would make the US broadcast just over a month after the UK). However, since spring doesn't begin until March 20, February 26 probably won't happen, though unless there is another new series premiering Wednesday, February 26, waiting until "spring" (at least March 20) makes no sense.

I dunno. It just doesn't seem like "Dramaville" material to me. I've been thinking it'll probably be a Sunday night series, like Copper was. Then again, I was surprised when the BBC in the UK scheduled it for Sundays at 9pm (their prime slot) when I was expecting it to be an early-evening Saturday show like Doctor Who, Robin Hood, Merlin, and Atlantis. I guess it's a bit more adult/serious than I was initially expecting it to be.

I too was very surprised to see The Musketeers on Sunday nights in the UK, when everything I read made me think just what you thought (perfect Saturday evening TV)!

I'm guessing the content in The Musketeers is less "of an adult nature" than Copper, so it could probably air on Sundays at 9pm.

I find it interesting that BBC America apparently considers Doctor Who just about the only UK show where illegally watching online cuts into US ratings, hence why it now always airs the same night as the UK.

BBC America's Musketeers page has it listed now as a June premiere.

The new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, is in this, by the way. He's the villain, Cardinal Richelieu.

Yes. Apparently, if this gets renewed for a second season, they're going to have to try and coordinate a working schedule for him for both this and Doctor Who. They'd rather not recast the part if they don't have to.

I've only seen the premiere episode. Not as bad as I'd feared, not as good as I'd hoped. I enjoyed it enough to watch some more episodes when it comes to BBCA this summer, but it's not Must See TV. I can't guarantee I'll watch the entire season, but then I managed to stick it all the way through all 13 episodes of Atlantis (still haven't figured out why, though), so who knows?

i would say, "good." i like most of the characters/performances and the plot lines are fairly interesting, in that musketeer kind of way. i think they have given the characters some good personality quirks and the series shifts from lighthearted to dark quite easily. it is neither overly serious nor overly "campy." if you go in not expecting a completely serious show you may just like it.

all of that said, it seems there are quite a few people who would disagree with my opinion, so perhaps i just found it at the right time for me.
