Default Another silly question on regional release's

I suppose this question has been asked once before, so i'm sorry for repeating it to those who have posted replies to this question in the past.

My question being when i have been searching other areas of the globe for new blu-ray titles, there seem to be such a difference in release date's.

Just as an example A Bridge Too Far is coming next month to Japan, it is not out in Europe, Aussie Land or the U.S until later in the year, as far as i am aware, so why not a universal release of all titles?
Is it due to copy rights or some other reason?

Thanks for any replies, as i will sleep better tonight knowing.

i would imagine larger places who have more blu ray users get more titles and get them earlier then us.

newer films are'nt universally released because they are normally out on dvd in the state while they are just hitting the cinemas in Oz so if the dvd came out at the same everyone would just buy it and the cinema people would get pissed.

hope that helps .

Movies are not always distributed by the same country in all regions so the local distributor choose the release date themselves.

It can also be, like for Con Air and The Rock for example (released by Disney both in Europe and USA but in Europe months earlier than USA), that the distributor thinks the time is right in one region but not the other. Disney thought it was the correct time to release them in Europe but not in USA.
