It's by the same writer and director of Saw. And producer of Paranormal Activity I believe. From what I read, this is suppose to be the Poltergeist of this generation. So the director said. But we'll see about that.
Apparently this film also got big praise from those who has seen it at the film festival. |

Just saw it last night. The story line had some potential, and there were some good "jump" moments in the beginning. But by the middle the screenplay really fell apart and it turned into one of those horror movies that is so bad it turns into comedy. For the last third of the movie the entire theater was laughing at the things that were supposed to be scary.

Insidious is a film that will be pretty polarizing, much like Paranormal Activity was. I for one loved it. It's a film that if you're prepared to go along for the ride, you'll come out totally rewarded. If you're a cynical movie goer seeing the film in a theater full of a#$holes who laugh at the screen when it's inappropriate, then you're probably going to react the same way as the rest of the audience.
I love to be terrified, as did the rest of the theater audience i saw Insidious with. For the first 40 minutes or so, Insidious is a straight-up haunted house flick. When [Show spoiler] , it takes a sharp turn into fantasy horror territory. I loved this direction. All of the performances were top notch, including Barbara Hershey and Lin Shaye. Rose Byrne (love her) and Patrick Wilson did a fine job of making the terrifying sequences believable. If you're a fan of fantasy horror like Hellraiser, Phantasm, Poltergeist, or The Dark, and you WANT to be terrified, you'll enjoy the hell out of this film. If you go into it with a cynical attitude, just turn around and see some boring garbage like Limitless or something. |
