Only first saw this a little over a year ago, but really enjoyed it. Robert Newton was a total delight as Long John Silver, and I could easily see how he set the standard for all screen pirates since. I may have to look more into the DMC.

FINALLY!! I've had the DVD for this since it was released to coincide with the theatrical release of 'Treasure Planet' over a decade ago. This is a huge favorite of mine from childhood, and I will HAPPILY upgrade.

Everyone showed up for that movie, but Newton was just charisma on fire.

This is how Song of the South should be released.

That or through the Turner Classic Movies website, since the 2 are in good terms.

Oh...

I really really do not want to join the Disney Movie Club, but I'll be darned if I'm not being tempted more and more with each of these announcements.

Song of the South is a crushing bore other than the animated sequences. Anyone who wants to see the movie can watch it on YouTube anytime they want, or import an old VHS or laserdisc. Political opportunists will use any new home video release as a excuse to get on the news, fund raise off of it, make demands, basically drive Disney's PR teams nuts. So it ain't worth it. The movie isn't worth it, the drama surrounding a release wouldn't be worth it. I don't think I'm ever going to live to see it happen. And frankly, I don't care.

I have to disagree with you song of the south is a classic Disney film and should definitely be released on bluray somehow. Also why can't Disney release the live action films to the general public instead of just releasing them bare bones on bluray to a small club that most people either can't afford or don't know about or don't have the time to deal with.

Naah. Not worth all the drama. Who needs that grief, these days in particular? Doesn't need to be on Blu any more than it needs to be in cinemas.

Because no one bought them on DVD, so Disney uses them as a carrot to get the hardcore fans to join the club.

Sold!

And I don't even have to keep the DVD around since it had no extras!

Don't get why these live action threads always get hijacked by Song of the South. It's like bringing up Howard the Duck in a thread about Tucker: The Man and his Dream or Radioland Murders. Going to say it again for the last time...anyone on planet Earth can watch that movie on YouTube for free if they're so inclined. They can import old VHS tapes or laserdiscs. I'll never sanction piracy, but Disney seems to turn a blind eye for copies of the movie on e*bay (probably because it shuts some people up). The movie is a staggering, one-dimensional, melodramatic mediocrity, other than the animated sequences. All of the fuss and electrons wasted talking about it are gob-smacking to me -- Fantasia can't get arrested in a movie discussion forum, bring up Song of the South and you're off to the races. Seriously, I don't believe anyone who says they want this movie because they love the movie. At least not in most cases. I think 9 times out of 10, they're Disney collectors with a hole on their shelves and it drives them nuts.
