Default HELP: Suddenly Unable to Switch Regions for Sony BDP-S1200

Bought this player in 2015 and def. played Region B discs on it. The instructions involve pressing the color rectangles on the remote (blue for B, for instance). I absolutely have switched on it before to play UK discs and am suddenly unable to switch to play those same discs now.

Any reasons this could be? Should I try to reset the player to factory, or would have screw things up? Any help would be great, I'm not particularly tech savvy.

Was the player physically modified? have you installed official firmware recently?

From what I remember such mods require the user to select the region before turning the player on, so (I think) turn the player on with the coloured buttons.

Nothing was ever done to the player in between. And I don't have it connected to the internet or anything like that for any updates to go through.

Touching the colored buttons does not start the player, though. Sadly doesn't operate like a play button where the disc would start.

Do you have another Sony DVD/BD remote with the Colored buttons to try?

It could be the player or a bad remote. I've tried a couple different Sony remotes with my 6700 and the included remote works the same as the remote than came with a normal non Region Free player.

Weird, most mods start the player with the touch of coloured buttons, you put the player into stand-by and press the Yellow, Blue or Red buttons.

Quick Start and Remote Start are disabled with the player.

Like hariseldon posted, it might be the remote. Can you try a Universal BD to see if the bookmark (the coloured buttons) functions work?

This was suspected for a while---I lived with someone when I bought this player and our remotes were identical. I wondered if perhaps we swapped remotes when we parted ways, and she sent me the remote she had which arrived yesterday. I was really hoping it would be as simple as that but sadly not.

I'll give this a look later/tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!

Definitely check to see if the QuickStart is off in the menu. I turned it on when I first got my player and took a while before i figured out what I'd done in my initial setup - thought I had broken the player the first hour

If you havne't already -- unplug the unit for 15 minutes and try again.
