Do you still have it on your shelf? I feel like I can only have one copy of the same movie on my shelf so I put the older one in a cupboard somewhere

The Thing is going to be my very first Blu-ray double dip. When I get the new one from Scream, I'll take the Universal one off my shelf and tuck it away until I either give it to someone, sell it with some others at my local Rasputin store or take a box of stuff to Goodwill.

Depends. If the dvd has the exact same extras and there is nothing about the artwork that I want to keep, then I just sell it. Normally, if I end up keeping the disc then I will pull it from the shelf and store the disc in one of my Discgear dvd containers. But, sometimes, I might put all of the versions of a movie that I own in one package (using an empty multi-disc case). Depends on what king of case it comes in and how many copies of the movie I own.

Depends on the value. If I can get $8 or more, I put it on ebay. Between $2 and $8, I either give it to a friend that wants it, or I trade it in to a record store. If it's one where the record store is only going to give me like 50 cents, I hang onto it and keep it in a bin. Not sure what I'll be doing with those yet -- probably just use the cases as replacements for other films I buy.
In some situations, I'll keep the extra copy if there is some kind of sentimental value, it was autographed, or if I'm a big fan of that particular film. The latter situation is why I have numerous copies of American Psycho, Dark City and Evil Dead 2 on various formats. |

I always get rid of an older release as I hate having duplicates! I can usually sell them but if not it goes to family or charity shops. I do have the odd duplicate when there are good reasons though.
I recently sold my UK Fury steelbook for instance. It was nice but the fact was, after getting the German amaray cheap with the improved black levels, the UK one would never get watched again so it got sold (got nearly all my money back too). |

If the movie has special features that aren't on the new version, I'll keep it (which is an annoying habit of mine, because it's not like I'm gonna watch them anyway :P ).
Otherwise I'll either try and sell it on eBay or just give it to a friend that doesn't already have it. |

I usually sell or trade-in the older copy.
There are a few exceptions. I'm keeping my MGM Blu-ray of the 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, although the new Scream Factory release is slightly better, just because I love the movie, and because I'll only make a buck or two off of the MGM edition if I sell it. |

Since I have a limited amount of room & don't want to end up being featured on a show about hoarders (LOL!), I almost always unload a DVD if I get a Blu of the same movie/TV series - even if the Blu has less special features than the DVD. Ditto for the DVD's that come with Blu's (which is happening less often now). I typically will donate these to my local library.
The only exception I've made is the great 2007 Blade Runner 3 Disk set that included the 1982 theatrical cut, the 1992 Director's Cut, and the 2007 cut. I've kept this set, even though I later bought the single-disk Blade Runner BD (with only one of the versions - I don't remember which one; possibly just the 2007 version). But, in this case I had a good reason for keeping the DVD set, since the single BD only included one version of the film. As it stands, the original '82 version (with the voice-over) is still my favorite... |

If I bought it cheap then I keep the case and toss the disc and cover out. I don't bother with returns when a movie I bought online arrives with a cracked case so I use the spare case from the double-dip to replace broken ones.
If the movie is rare or sells out quickly then I keep it to sell in the future when the price jumps or to use as a trade. I did this with the original Blu-ray release of Sleeping Beauty (before the Diamond Edition was ever announced.) I kept it and checked the price on Amazon every few months then sold it for $50. If the movie cost me more than $8 I just give it to my brother as a birthday or Christmas present since we tend to have the same taste in films. Makes a great extra item to toss in a gift bag. |
