It says the movie is in 3D - that's interesting. (I presume that's old-school 3D with red and blue lenses, so I can't use the modern glasses)

Or will a 2D version be included as well? I remember enjoying this one.

My guess is limited has both 2&3D versions and standard release just 2D.

Great cover art, been years since saw this and unless memory fails main villain is not featured but his palaquin is.

That would be a bit of a bummer if that were the case about the 3D but we'll see.

I imagine they’re remastered it for modern 3D TV tech.

Hope the package includes both a Polaraized BD3D & anaglyphic option for those who don’t have a 3D TV/projector.

Looking forward to putting this next to my ‘Dynasty’ & ‘Revenge of the Shogun Women’ Blu-rays

They have. The logo on the spine is the official logo for "true" 3D blu-rays.

DAY 1!

I have this on 3D Laserdisc. It's anaglyphic though and comes with a pair of 3D glasses. I got the Japanese Blu Ray as well but that is not 3D, the Laserdisc, in my opinion, is still superior for now.

Keen to see what 88 will bring in terms of the 3D. Needs to be done VERY well because of how the 3D setup was shot for the film. With simple red and cyan it needs to be spot on with this one else you lose the effect and engagement with the film. If it's more modern 3D then that's an instant preorder. I can use it with my Sony HMZ-T3. Mad Magician was brilliant on that headset. This isn't a long film either so my skull won't be ground to dust. Win win!

I doubt this will have the Star Wars music either. Again, keen to see what 88 do with this one, it has potential to be a disaster. Hesitantly will preorder and cancel if early reviews slate it.

EDIT: I can't preorder. It says currently unavailable?

I'd be surprised if it doesn't - Shout!'s release did.

Fingers crossed! Really looking forward to this disc, it's up there with Bruce Lee Fights Back From The Grave for me.

That one will never happen in my lifetime though alas...

It's says BD3D, so it's proper 3D, not the anaglyph rubbish that's on the upcoming Pete Walker set. This is a big relief. I just hope that the 3d has been properly checked and aligned, and that it's not going to be a headache inducing botch-job like ehay Shout have done in their 3D releases.

The synopsis implies it has the Star Wars music so I'd be very surprised if it doesn't.
Actually I'm not sure if my new player supports 3D? I don't have many 3D discs and not tried one yet

If it helps anyone, this is a screenshot that I took myself from my Japanese Blu Ray edition. The Japanese disc is NOT in 3D, just normal 2D.

I dumped the disc 1:1 and played it back in VLC in order to take the screenshot. This was done in 2021.

I also own the Laserdisc but don't have a photo of it to hand. This is the front cover from LDDB:

The Laserdisc is Japanese with a Japanese dub, no other audio is available (that I can remember. It might have Mandarin or Cantonese on the L/R analog channels, I'd need to dig out the disc and check). Just as a heads up, the 3D glasses come on an inner-sleeve sized orange card and press out of the card itself. They are red/cyan glasses with a white frame with stars and stripes on the hinges.

Personally I prefer the Laserdisc as it's in 3D, the Blu Ray is not. I've not seen the Shout Factory disc so can't comment. Didn't even know it existed until today.

As mentioned before, the 3D on this 88 Films disc absolutely MUST be bang on the money else the film will be a load of crap. The 3D in the film is very gimmicky. Think Jaws 3D, Friday The 13th Part 3, Comin' At Ya! and so on. Still, it will look like absolute garbage if 88 have messed this up. Hence my waiting on first reviews (but still pre-ordering anyway to be on the safe side!).

Just FYI, there was a JC box set in Japan (I forget which one offhand) that did include a transfer of the LD. It was only the one release, though. That and it was obviously anaglyph. This should be much better.
