United Kingdom Blood Simple (Studio Canal)

ICYMI, StudioCanal are releasing the Coen Brothers' debut BLOOD SIMPLE on October 30th, using the same recently-restored 4K master released by Criterion in the US.

I cannot wait to get my hands on this one! Fingers crossed they encode it as well as the recent Mulholland Drive release...

As posted in another thread the extras are apparently:

New interview with Joel & Ethan Coen
New interview with M Emmett Walsh
New interview with John Getz
Criterion interview with Frances McDormand
Investor trailer
Intro by Mortimer Young

Interesting they've got completely different extras from Criterion, unless these are just described differently compared the to the Criterion extras. Odd they'd license one interview from Criterion but film the others themselves (unless McDormand refused to interview, or was just not available).

Anyway, I hope they rope DavidM into this release as this is one of their 4K-restored titles and it'd be a shame to see them drop the ball on the encode again.

I imagine if it's the same master as the Criterion that it's going to be the revised cut and not the original theatrical cut?

Fantastic news. It's getting to be an expensive end to the year, especially with that Kaurismäki set. This is still day one though!

I’m keen to order this; have we had confirmation of DavidM’s involvement yet? I guess the reviews will drop soon.

Anyone pick this up?

Any thoughts?

Hopefully grab it tomorrow from HMV.

Might be in Sainsbury's like the other recent SC releases.

I actually walked down to Sainsbury's yesterday to see if it was, and they didn't have it...

Reckon I'm gonna wait 'til it's added to the HMV 2 for £25 offer. It was in the offer a few weeks ago but for some inexplicable reason they took it out (whilst it was in my basket, which is nice of them).

The Howling was added a week or two after release so I suppose this might be too. Since they didn't have The Howling in my local Sainsbury's (for £12 apparently), I might get both together from HMV.

Picked this up today in the 2 for £25. Really looking forward to giving it a watch sometime this week hopefully. Saw it in the cinema a few times and then had it on VHS but strangely have yet to own it own DVD or BD despite it being a superb film. Never seen the DC either though I doubt I'll remember the differences!

I watched this the other day. I had it on DVD but don't remember seeing the whole film, despite being a huge Coen Brothers fan (I honestly like every one of their films). Brilliant film, definitely top ten material. As far as the Director's Cut goes, in the interview on this disc they basically implied they tightened up the editing; it's a very efficient thriller done so I imagine they just made the narrative flow more organically (discarding lingering shots). Would've been nice to include both cuts, but there you go.
