So, there was a Target slickdeal where last year's Vizio M-series was getting discounted out to make room for this years newer models. Best Buy price matched it for me, took my money, said there were two in stock at some warehouse, and left me sitting for weeks with nothing. Turns out, they got rid of all their stock of the M-series, and there's nowhere (warehouse or store) that they can pull one from to get me my tv.
So! Best Buy is now offering me a price adjustment to buy something else comparable. They tried selling me on the Vizio D-series, but it's nowhere near the quality of the M-series (I found a write up from Vizio themselves comparing the two - I'll post it at bottom). Not only that, but the discount I got on the older M-series was $999 down to $534, making it a great deal. The current D-series is $679, and I'd be getting an okay discount if I go with that, bringing it down to the $534. I wasn't wanting to spend near $1000 on a new tv, and finding the M-series deal was really great. I can probably argue with a manager of Best Buy to discount any tv I want, but there's no way they'd discount more than a couple hundred dollars (at best!) off a tv to make up for the mishandling of my order. If I do want something really expensive, I'm positive I can ask for a further discount on it (like a P-series down to $900 instead of its $1200 normal price - or the newer M-series down to $700 instead of $999). But then I'm not looking for a lot of gimmicks other than a good amount of hdmi ports, a great looking picture, and decent sound. Should I stick with the Vizio brand, or look towards something else for a comparable tv? What brand has got a tv as good as the M-series? Or should I just argue for a discount on the newer Vizio hdr releases? Thanks much! Comparison: "The D50u-D1 has 12 active LED zones, 5,000,000 : 1 dynamic contrast ratio, 8ms response time, 16.7 million colors and 240 clear action. The M50-C1 has 32 active LED zones, 400,000 : 1 non-dynamic contrast ratio, 9.5ms response time, 1.07 billions colors and 360 clear action." |

Whelp, good fortune smiled on me today! After going through what I described above, I called in to the BB hotline today to try to get an even (or as close to even) swap for this years M-series television since they lost last years model on me. The telephone service people didn't want to take charge and offer me any sympathy discount, so they said I needed to go back to the store I bought it from. The manager there read all the notes Best Buy had collected about me, and he was sympathetic. But he only offered me an exchange for the newer M-series at $750 before tax. I was hesitant since I never wanted to pay near $1000 for a new tv, and I told him that I'd be willing to pay another $100 to upgrade since they were strong arming me. So he realized then that they had open box tv's that I could choose from where he could be as lenient in the price as he wanted when lo-and-behold he said there was a brand new P-series open box that someone just returned (probably after watching the NBA Finals), and he offered it to me at an even exchange of what I already payed for the old M-series =) There was also a newer Sony something-or-other open box that he had me look at cuz he was a bit of a videophile and he wanted me to choose between the two (he was really cool and was showing me the displays they had and everything), but I stuck with the Vizo brand since I've researched them and have trusted them in the past couple of years =)
So, I got a 2016 55" P-series 2 week (at most) open box unit for $540! Hooray for me!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
