That's why I couldn't find it, I was looking on the Shout Factory site and also checked Scream Factory (although it shouldn't have been there), but forget they had a Shout Select page. Thanks.

Wow, I had known that there was a listing with no release date for this film and just figured we would never see it on Blu Ray. I was checking out my DVD Wishlist page when I decided to search the DB again to see if there was a date (not really expecting to see one) and what do you know?!

Having read David Guterson's novel several years earlier, I was eager to see this when it was released theatrically. A visually splendid and touching film that surprisingly met with apathy from both the public and the critics; I suppose the measured pacing put many off, but Robert Richardson's lensing was so stunning it was damn-near intoxicating. Great to read that individuals involved with the movie want to contribute their recollections to the Blu; this is a film that thoroughly deserves a reappraisal.

Given we're a month out from release, I'm guessing this is either getting delayed or it won't have the planned extras since the extras haven't even been announced yet. In order to get this authored and replicated the extras should be firmed up by now.

Got this in the mail yesterday and looking forward to viewing it tonight. I wasn't aware it had a 4k restoration supervised by Robert Richardson along with all bonus material from the last dvd, to include a new feature. I like the artwork on the slipcover and case too

I just finished watching Snow Falling on Cedars, projected at 100 inches.
The picture quality is excellent and so is the film's cinematography. It's a moody and quietly haunting picture, filmed through the fog and snow. The wintry locations, filmed in and around the town of Cathlamet, Washington, are breathtaking. Most of the softness in the transfer is a byproduct of the conditions in which it was filmed, as well as the style of the cinematographer. It was my first time ever seeing the film, and I loved it. The narrative is dense and multi-layered. It's equally compelling as a love story and a courtroom drama. Max Von Sydow is damn good (what else is new) as the defense attorney, but the entire ensemble is game and there are subtly fine performances throughout. I just hopped over to Rotten Tomatoes and noticed the film has a 40 percent rotten rating after 91 reviews. That's absurd. This film is absolutely underrated, at least as far as the critics are concerned. Don't believe everything you read. Anyway, as a fan of much of the cast, I can't believe I hadn't seen Snow Falling on Cedars until now. This is a great release, and a solid transfer. OT, but as far as classic Ethan Hawke films, there's three more I'd LOVE to see finally get rescued from DVD purgatory: 1) The Explorers is locked in the Paramount vault of doom 2) I'm praying for a DMC of White Fang but a tad worried about their new streaming service taking precedence over physical releases 3) And I'm not sure who would release Alive, but it was a Touchstone release. |
