Germany The Fan (1996) Blu Ray Germany, Region A/B

Just wanted to mention that German Label Turbine just released Tony Scott's 1996 Thriller "The Fan" on Blu Ray in Germany. I bought the release, it comes in a nice mediabook with an additional DVD Version of the film. The Blu Ray is compatible to regions B as well as A, I did the testing myself. The release features 1080p/24p as well as DTS-HD Master Audio in both English and German as well as removable German subtitles. The Video and Audio quality are quite ok for a film of that age with little restoration work done. The transfer contains no German captions aside from the very beginning where the film's title is listed as "Der Fan", not "The Fan". The limited release cannot be ordered from Amazon for some reason but is available at some smaller retailers as specified on the following page:

http://www.bluray-disc.de/blu-ray-fi...n-blu-ray-disc.

It's a fantastic movie which I've always loved and enjoyed in this edition especially. Hope this can be of use to someone outside of Germany as well...

That's your opinion, it's not necessary to spoil it for other people though. You don't have to get it, do you? I'm just trying to help people who dig the movie to get it in HD, that's all...

Glad to be of service. Being a huge Tony Scott fan myself this was the last one of his movies that was missing in HD. As I said, this release is far from perfect but it's still worlds ahead of the poor DVDs that had been released in the past. I enjoyed it tremendously! If you know how to get this movie listed within the construct of this website so that people might actually find it via the search function please let me know since sadly I don't...

Just a heads up that the main seller on portal site you linked to doesn't ship to the U.S., but I was able to order directly from Rakete Shop site.

I don't understand how my opinion of The Fan spoils it for other people. I believe that, since you are entitled to proclaim that it is a "fantastic" movie, I am also entitled to to proclaim that it is a total piece of shit.

If you are just trying to help people who dig the movie to get it in HD, I am just trying to advise those who might take your opinion as gospel, letting them know that The Fan is, IN MY OPINION, about as far from a "fantastic" movie as possible.

Does that meet with your approval, or do we need to go another round?

You are going rounds, I'm not. At least I'd never post in an internet movie forum in which people are discussing a Blu ray disc that the movie sucks, like that's what the post's about. Never mind, I don't want to argue. So, as you so elegantly put it, there's no need to go another round in your imaginary boxing match. Greetings, a fan of The Fan.

Default How I love the internet!

I rarely ever post anything on an internet forum because whenever I do there's always that malignant guy that's compelled to attack. I really just wanted to mention that there's a new BD beingt available and I'm really surprised that I got attacked for the simple fact of calling a movie fantastic within 5 minutes by someone I've never met...

Gee, next time I'll know that if someone praises a film, disagreeing with that person is forbidden. So, ya know what? You are right! I took another look at The Fan and I am shocked that it wasn't a worldwide blockbuster, garnering Oscars for Best Picture, Director and 2 for Best Actor.

Please provide me with a complete list of other films that you admire so I'll remember to avoid, at any costs, having a contrary opinion.

So, signing off...a fan of Outerheaven23!

Thanks for the heads up OP, I love this movie! If I recall, the DVD was a pan and scan piece of shit (at least the version of it I had).

I hope they release a regular version down the line. The mediabook is a bit pricey

Compression is sometimes noticeable, the entire thing seems to be derived from the master that had been used for the original DVD as well for both the widescreen as well as the shitty pan & scan abomination I once owned myself. So the master is far from perfect as I'd mentioned. That being said this transfer is now presented properly in HD and looks much better than ever before, the audio is also noticeably improved. Seeing how some people on this thread look at this movie I doubt that we'll be getting a superior transfer/BD anytime soon. It's kind of a forgotten movie but still a mighty fine achievement at least in my plebeian opinion. My mediabook also came with a limited 35mm framecard with a film cell showcasing De Niro's character, quite nice I must say. I'm really glad The Fan finally made it to BD...
