Obviously we’ve had Man Of The West and The Man From Laramie from MOC, but does anyone have any information about possible releases for Mann’s other highly regarded westerns? Naked Spur, Bend Of The River and Winchester ‘73 particularly.
Equally, there three UNDENIABLY classic westerns we are also yet to see: Stagecoach, High Noon and Johnny Guitar. Would pretty much die for any of these on Blu. Any news? Last edited by BigNickUK; 05-29-2018 at 02:33 PM. |

Dunno if it necessarily needs its own thread - if you searched you could find posts discussing these titles!
![]() I have raised the question of some of these before, and it's likely that both Winchester '73 and Bend of the River may come soon, most likely from either Indicator or Arrow Academy (since both have released Universal titles lately). Add to that The Far Country, which is also a Universal title, and from Indicator we could also see The Last Frontier (from Columbia). Most other Mann titles are Warner Bros so unlikely to pop up here unless there's a Warner Archive release in the US first. As for High Noon and Johnny Guitar, both are with Paramount so would require a deal with them, which might be complicated as Universal now control their distribution. However, I'm hoping Eureka will attempt a new deal with Paramount at some point as they have done twice before, even if it means going through Universal first (and maybe even doing a deal with them at the same time). Worth it just for those two titles, but there are other very strong Republic-Melange titles they could get, as well as a number from the Paramount vaults. Stagecoach was released in the UK by Universal, but at this point is more likely to be ported via Criterion I reckon. We'll have to wait and see on that one! |

Have Winchester 73 on pre-order from Amazon France but will be canceling because of forced French subtitles. Hoping for a U.K or USA release.
Edit: also have The Far Country on pre-order from Amazon Germany 12-31-18 Last edited by aj101097; 05-27-2018 at 03:12 PM. |

Winchester 73 is about to undergo a new restoration, so it would probably be best if any UK label held off on that one for the time being. According to Explosive Media their eventual release of The Far Country will also be from a new 4K restoration, so we should wait for further news on that.
I would hope that Bend of the River might also be restored. |

Germany has released a shedload of westerns, & have quite a few more as pre-orders (they do love their westerns), so it's always worth checking Amazon.de if you're looking for a particulate title. I don't think Criterion will be releasing Stagecoach over here as I believe Universal have the European rights to RKO films. I know Winchester '73 looks great, as it's been on Film Four quite a few times, I'd import the Aussy release, but I'm sure it'll get released here or Germany before too long, it was due for a German release in a couple of years ago, but disappeared from the listings.
Bend Of The River & The Far Country have been on Film Four in HD looking just about okay, good to hear about a new 4K transfer for The Far Country & I hope Bend Of The River gets the same treatment, it's one of my favourite westerns. |

Can anyone pass comment on the recent Plan B release of Broken Arrow? Good quality? Good film in general?

Germany has just released a Cecil B DeMille forties epic of the early days of the west, Unconquered (1947) starring Gary Cooper & Paulette Goddard (& Boris Karloff as an Indian Chief!), it's a lot of fun & the Blu-ray looks fantastic with those solid forties colours, & it's only 13 euros.

Let's not forget about The Tin Star , another great Anthony Mann western starring Henry Fonda & Anthony Perkins (also with Paramount, I believe).
