Question Blu-ray import question?

I found a thread a few weeks ago that had Universal, Paramount / Dreamworks titles available on Blu-ray in the UK (I could be wrong)? I saw titles like Next, Faceoff, etc. Can anyone direct me to this thread? I am interested in getting US HD-DVD exclusive titles on Blu from the UK.

Maybe I'm completely wrong? But if not, Is there a list of titles that fall into this category? I remember it visually in my mind very well. . . with pictures and everything.

Furthermore, does anyone know which publishers publish Blu in UK but not US? It would be nice to have movies like Transformers and the Bourne series on Blu. Wouldn't it be nice if there was an official thread discussing this matter? Maybe there already is? If so forgive me. . .

you can find faceoff and next on amazon.uk

as for stuff like the bourne films i doubt you will find somewhere to import them on blu they are uni's money maker and will have rights to disturb it around the world.

same for transformers not going to happen on blu until paramount comes back.

you can find minor releases though , eastern promises is getting a blu release in the uk and i know the recent hitcher film owned by uni has been released in denmark on blu ray.

hope this helps.

A little off-topic but has anyone tried playing a region coded disc in the wrong region? Does it pop-up with an error message or will it just not do anything?

Take a look at the link in my signature for both titles available outside USA and if they are region free or not.

For me, I inserted a Region 2 DVD and a message came up when I clicked on it saying something like "This is a region 2 disc and is not compatible with your PS3".

It's been a year since I tried this but a message will come up.

Not all Blu-ray discs are region-coded, which is the point of the discussion in this thread.

Importing any Blu-ray title is something of a gamble, though it's not nearly as risky as importing a standard DVD is, but it would be a good idea to do your homework on any title you plan to important from a country outside of your primary region.

Realistically, Blu-ray breaks down into 3 optional regions:

A is Japan, Korea, and North/South America.

B is Europe and Australia/New Zealand.

C is the rest of the Asian continent.

Discs within your own home region will always work on your local player - discs released in other regions may be region-free or may be region-locked, based on the whims of the content producer (typically to respect agreements regarding theatical release windows).

I was responding to MouseRider's question of what happens when you insert a disc that IS region coded. I understand the point of the discussion, I know that there are region free Blu-ray disc out there, I know that there are region free DVDs that exist.
