I tought I would try something different, start a thread about a movie that was made before 2005 (yes there were movies made before TDK
![]() I just completed Legend by Ridley Scott. Now I must tell you first that I saw that movie only once before and believe it or not that was way back in 1986 when it was release here. You might wonder why it took me 23 years to watch this movie again? At the core of it all is that I was extremely dissapointed back then. I think I went in the movie expecting Conan and well for anyone who's seen Legend you know it could not be more different if it wanted to. I have to admit now 23 years later that it was not as bad as I remember way back then. There were still some elements that were bothering me : First, Tom Cruise. During the entire movie I was having a hard time accepting him or beleiving him to be the young hero Jack. I just could let my imagination accept him as such. Also is it just me or does he spend the entire movie with the same stupid expresion on his face? Second, the score. I suppose that I would prefer a full orchestra score in a fantasy film. I usualy do not dislike the music of Tangerine Dream but I find it so annoying to know the entire music of the movie is done with a couple of keyboards. Third, the sets. Of course lot's of scenes in countless movies are done or sets but it's seem to be so obvious in this movie that it was hard for me to accept I was in a fantasy land. Everything look so fake at time I had a hard time getting into it. However this time around I was able to understand the movie a lot more. I was able to appreciate the story that was being told, this is not a hack & slash movie, it's a poetic story. I was really impress by Mia Sara, her acting seen so much better then Tom Cruise or maybe it was just that I find him to be so lame in this role she look's incredible next to him? It's almost incredible to think it's Tim Curry under all that makeup as the Lord of Darkness. I believe that the Director's cut actualy as the score by Jerry Goldsmith? Is that the case? For those who as seen that version, does the mucis make's a huge difference on the movie? Now I did not see this in HD, it was SD on my DVR from a classic movie channel. What is your opinion of this Ridley Scott movie? Last edited by P@t_Mtl; 09-11-2009 at 11:50 PM. |
