Fantastic news! I think I mentioned this TV horror film as one I wanted Warner Archive to release years ago and now its a reality! One of the creepiest films ever made. Avoid the remake.

Great film! This was first brought to my attention by Guillermo Del Toro in some interview or something. There's a DVD out by W.A.C., but a blu-ray release is excellent news.

An old house ... a mysterious locked room ... a terrifying secret. lements that make a horror movie memorably chilling get a taut, spooky reworking in Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. Kim Darby ( True Grit) and Jim Hutton (The Green Berets) star as Sally and Alex, young marrieds who inherit a crumbling mansion. Despite warnings to leave well enough alone in her new home, Sally unlocks the mysterious room, opens a bricked-up fireplace ... and unleashes a horde of hideous whispering, murdering mini*demons only she can see and hear. This is the original TV movie that inspired the 2010 theatrical remake starring Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce.

Yeah, he's right. This movie scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. It's definitely one of the scariest TV movies ever made. And the musical score throughout will send chills down your spine.

The same and I think I checked under the bed with a flashlight for the next 6 months after my first viewing. Never thought I would see this on Blu-ray.

Also from 1973 and on ABC-TV, there was "A Cold Night's Death" with Robert Culp and Eli Wallach. Gave up hope on this one a long time ago as well. I guess anything is possible, hope renewed.

Thought Shout had this, but WA's announcement works well too. Guess the Archive line must be doing higher sales numbers than expected for Warner.

Never seen this, but a big fan of the underrated 2011 remake. I may check this out the next time WB has a 4-for-$44 sale.

I had high hopes for the remake in spite of the bad reviews. I hated it. Hopefully you will enjoy this one. I love it.....

This is one of those films I've heard good things about for years, but have never seen. I know it was released on DVD-R from Warner Archive, but I'll definitely be getting this Blu-ray. Last year's Blu-ray release of Bad Ronald looks phenomenal so I imagine Don't Be Afraid of the Dark will too.

The ending of this film is what gets me. Don’t want to give anything away, but It’s not what you’d expect.

"A Cold Night's Death" has to be one of the finest made for TV films ever produced. I first saw that movie back in 1985 when it aired late at night on one of our local stations. Such an incredibly powerful ending and both Culp and Wallach give outstanding performances. This one stays with you.

I remember "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" as it ran in rotation on a "Creature Feature" Saturday afternoon movie matinee on the same local station back in the early 1980's. Today's horror films can't hold a candle to how atmospheric and chilling old school made for television horror movies could be when done effectively.

Forgot to mention, I attended a wedding back in 2013 that was hosted at the Victorian mansion where this movie was filmed.

I had never seen A Cold Night's Death until just the other night. I watched it on youtube after reading your post. It was really good. Loved it.

Just recently, I almost purchased a streaming standard edition of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (Warner has it available on youtube), and I'm so glad I didn't pull the trigger. Really excited to watch this Blu-ray with a 4K restoration. It's going to be special. It really is.
