Universal Studios Mary Queen of Scots (2018)

Mary Queen of Scots (2018) Blu-ray

Quote:
Synopsis: Mary Queen of Scots explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart (Ronan). Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth I (Robbie). Each young Queen beholds her "sister" in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth's sovereignty. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones – and change the course of history.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
Feature Commentary with Director Josie Rourke and Composer Max Richter
An Epic Confrontation - Fetaurette
Tudor Feminism - Featurette
Something About Marys - Featurette

I had the pleasure of finally seeing this in theaters last night. This is an easy purchase for me. Loved it.

I'm really excited to see that composer Max Richter did the commentary with director Josie Rourke. Can't wait to hear that.

I'm also looking forward to catching this one. Not generally a Margot fan, but do enjoy Ronan's movies typically. I'm interested to see the two friends play off each other.

Day One for me. Even if the subject matter wasn't already compelling me, the cast alone would have already sealed the deal. And since I missed it in the theater ...

A handsome production with two fantastic leads, but I much prefer my period dramas to be more traditionally, historically as well as culturally accurate. This film is sluggish, misguidedly hipster post modern PC tripe that took me right out of the experience. A cast of certain good actors wasted on improper material.

Can anyone comment on the score? I heard it's one of the the best parts of the movie and reminiscent of the live-action Cinderella (2015).

So, it's another Darkest Hour?
