I own a PS3 as a BD player and I am just wondering when you guys if ever plan to get a stand alone to be your BD player?

I think I will get one once there is a player that has all the features that BD has to offer. Probably will get one in about 2 years.

well first they need to drop the price.I mean my ps3 does everything i want it too so why switch?plus the ps3 is updated easily so its great.

i will get one when they release some 2.0 players and when they are just as fast at loading as the PS3

already own a stand alone + the two ps3s and were looking to get another one so it all depends if sony does a dts HD MA update probly will get another one of those

The moment I can get my hands on the new BD50 from Panasonic. I have been dying to hear DTS-HD MA. My PS3 is a really loud one too and it really bothers me sometimes when Im watching movies, I dont care when gaming though.

I don't got a big urge to get a stand alone. Pretty sure i wont be tryin to watch a movie while playing a game if i had a seperate player. At this point i don't even know when i'd get one.

no one knows for sure. but the majority and some "insiders" say yes decoding is possible from firmware update. but im betting i get one of the new players before the ps3 gets the update

paidgeek is/was online and seemed surprised that most dont care for profile 2.0 and mainly want the decoding. im hoping hes going to give some info

Never... I never owned a stadalone DVD player always used my PS2 for it lol so my PS3 will be my Blu player too ^^

That sounds about right. A few like the bells and whistles (fluff), but most here would trade it for the sound formats not yet available on the PS3.

Once theres a DTS-HD compatible player with a price tag under 100 dollars, ill get that. I dont really care how long i have to wait...
Ive got my PS3 till then.

I'll get a standalone player when they mature. Perhaps in a year or two.

Problem for the standalone players is that the PS3 is an incredibly good Home Theater source. It plays all of my discs, plays games, streams audio/video from my PC, runs GNU/Linux allowing the emulation of Zaxxon and the like, and so on. It doesn't make me tea..

Having both is the best of all worlds. I have the PS3, and a Panasonic BD30. I get bitstreamed DTS-HD MA, and a super silent player that matches my AV rack, and in the bedroom I have the cool gaming and movie watching for when I just want to lay around feeling lazy.

Having both is nice.

People that have only one or the other are missing out. I feel kind of sorry for them, but not overly though. Everyone has a budget.

The PS3 is a great starting point. No contest about that. Blu-ray players will soon be as common as DVD players. That day is coming sooner than most expect. Cheap BD players will make this whole conversation moot.
