Default Transformers Animated Movies?

Hey guys, I really LOVE the Transformers movie from 1986. I remember watching a full length Transformers animated movie from one of the newer Transformer series recently, but I can't recall the exact name. I think it was 'Rise of the Predacons'? I'm not sure of the exact name but it featured Unicron resurrecting Megatron. I enjoy the animatedness and the mature and sophisticated dialogue.

Does anyone know of a list of these Transformers animated movies?

Thanks!

Yeah mostly a series that is trying to be Transformers with even trying to make a connection by making it into some kind of like spin-off. But as you can guess, Transformers was way more popular.

Speaking of The Transformers, anyone thinking that the original (1986) film might get a proper blu ray this next year for the 30th Anniversary?
The australian/UK blu rays leave a bit to be desired but given the checkered history of that films preservation it might be the best we get. They could at least give us a lossless DTS-HD MA track of the original stereo mix as well as maybe finally give us a decent surround sound mix that doesn't ruin the movie.
Given the success the overall franchise has had in recent years, it'd be nice if someone even went full bore to digitally correct some of the absurd coloring errors in the movie (notably dual Frenzy, during the battle of Autobot City.)

None else that I can think of. And yes that was the 2013 animated movie you were thinking of that makes the ending to the Transformers Prime TV series which has what you mentioned.

Wel llike I said that is all the ones I am aware of. So pretty much means that Transformers movies are not very common even if Transformers Prime Beast Hunters: Predacons Rising is actually just a TV movie. The others well you are full aware of the 1986 movie, the Japan-only movie and the one that is possibly up for debate of its relationship with Transformers. So best bet is maybe trying to see if you can find the Japan-only movie subbed online.

Wow, thanks for your reply!

What's the 'Japan-only movie'? When was it released?

Beast Wars II: Lio Convoy's Close Call! which came out in 1998 which is based on the Beast Wars II Super Life-Form Transformers TV series(Japan-only as well as Beast Wars Neo TV).

Now we have Transformers TV series like the 2015 Robots In Disguise (not to be confused with the 2000 version of the series with the same name since it takes after Prime) and there's also the Rescue Bots TV series on Discovery Family.

I don't recommend watching any Transformers series written in Japan. I hate all of them, except for Galaxy Force (Which is better known as Transformers Cybertron outside of Japan).

I liked Transformers Armada when Toonami aired it.

With all the Bayformers shite they're pumping out, it pains me there's still no good HD release of the 1986 animated movie!

Pretty much what you said here. Victory is pretty cool for what it is but most of it is rather forgettable outside of some neat animation.

Headmasters in particular though has always been a novelty to me. It brings back some Pre-Movie characters who otherwise had disappeared in Season 3 and animates a lot of characters most westerners are familiar with. It's also interesting in that it's the one show that tried to be at least similar to it's American produced predecessor, which led to a rather uneven show that leaves you with a 'It's familiar but it's not' feeling. It at least retained the symbol flip and jingle that occurred during the act change.

Really? What's so bad about the Japanese versions of Transformers?

Many of the problems I have with the Japanese series stem from the way how anime aimed towards Japanese little children are made and some of those problems were already visible in the localization of the very first Transformers series. Characters and especially the leaders are generally very dull and the stories are very predictable.

Quote:
The casting was also very well-done and most of the voices were perfect fits for the character. I’ll admit that Tessho Genda’s Convoy (the Japanese name for Optimus Prime… well, not anymore, as they’ve begun adopting our Western names in recent years) was a bit too dull; a trait that would follow just about every Autobot leader character in these dubs (the idea of a leader “having fun” or “being silly” doesn’t gel with Japanese sensibilities, thus the Autobot leaders are typically reduced to personality-less cardboard standees).
Quote:
While Victor Caroli narrated the original version of The Transformers, he could only be heard in a total of 20 of the 98 episodes, and his narration was typically subdued to the beginning of episodes or reserved for the “previously/next episode” recaps. The narrator of the Japanese dub, Issei Masamune, had different ideas.

For whatever reason, it was decided that The Transformers was much too complicated for Japanese children to follow along by actually watching what was happening on their television screens. Thus, it was decided that a narrator needed to be ever-present and describe events as they were happening. If characters traveled from one place to another, Masamune could be heard describing the setting, whereas Western children were left to figure it out on their own via context like a bunch of chumps. Masamune could be heard a few seconds later, introducing each character as they stepped into frame. He could then be heard again a few seconds later, when the scene changes, explaining to the audience the location the story has swapped to. He could then be heard a few seconds after that, describing in detail a plot point you think would be obvious but was apparently too sophisticated for Japanese audiences.

The Japanese Transformers localizations are very interesting case studies of bad Japanese localization efforts. A lot of anime fans complained about the bad American localizations from 4Kids etc., but those localizations pale in comparison to how terrible the Japanese localizations of American/Canadian Transformers series are.
