![]() ![]() City of God Blu-ray City of God Blu-ray Review Early reports have indicated that Lionsgate plans to release City of God on Blu-ray this December. Directors Fernando Meirelles (The Constant Gardener) and Kátia Lund's Academy Award-nominated crime epic takes viewers through Rio de Janeiro's brutal underground, focusing on a young man (Alexandre Rodrigues) who dreams of becoming a photojournalist in order to escape the violence of his community. Featuring cinematography from award-winning DP César Charlone (Blindness) and star-making performances from Alice Braga (Predators) and Seu Jorge (The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou), City of God remains a controversial and important modern classic. While Lionsgate has yet to confirm a full listing of technical and supplementary specifications, Miramax's previous DVD edition presented the film in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1 with a 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack and a number of bonus features, including: Hour-long News From A Personal War documentary on crime in Rio's de Janeiro City of God is expected to street on December 13th. I have never seen it, but I have heard nothing but good things. I know a great deal of people who say this is one of the best movies they have ever seen. I was planning on getting the imported version soon on a blind buy, but I will just wait for this to hit stores December 13th.

I knew that they'd release this as soon as I decided to import the Canadian release, but I only paid $15 for it so I don't mind too much.
I thought the Canadian (Alliance) release was well worth owning for the price I paid for it, so I have confidence in this forthcoming release. |

One of my favorites. Amazing flick that everyone should see ASAP.
I've owned the Alliance Canada release for quite some time, and it's one of their better efforts, but if this one is better in the PQ department and has more extras, I will happily double dip. |

About freaking time!
The included documentary (on the DVD) is amazing as well. It was telling when they mentioned that the only government workers that will enter the Favela are soldiers/SWAT. Speaking of which, in recent news: War in the Favela |

I am very pleased with my Alliance version as well. No need for me to buy the US release, but very glad to see this Masterpiece finally released in the US.

Eh? Why would they possibly NOT include the Portuguese track? Lossy okay, that kind of sucks, but what would possibly indicate that they wouldn't include the original language track on the most well-known and acclaimed movie filmed in Portuguese?
