Just home from a second viewing (after seeing it at midnight on Thursday). Still as magical as ever. Roll on 2018
![]() I've gone for the Niffler model and film set. If a decent (unique artwork) steelbook is released I'll pick that up too. |

Absolutely loved the film. Already seen it… let's say a few more times than once at the cinema! XD
Gonna go with the 3D HMV Steelbook for now. I know there'll probably be a "Newtcase" box set edition once all the movies are out, but this is a series I definitely can't wait on each film for! In terms of the film itself, I saw another post that sums the film up the best. Paraphrasing, it said this is how you make an expanded universe film. It doesn't retread, recycle or contradict the original stories like some previous "prequel" series. It takes the world from the original books and films, and takes it in a new direction, a new time period and a new location. It's exactly where I what I was hoping this series would do. Can't wait to see where it goes from here! |

Saw this on Friday,
Enjoyed more then I thought I would ![]() I like the Harry Potter films, but I'm not a massive fan, but really enjoyed this Thought it was a very good way to expand the universe Looking forward to more Will pick this up week 1, but just normal edition for me. No more steelbook chasing for me anymore (apart from MCU) |

UPDATE: WBUK just revealed on Facebook that the UK 4k, 3D, Blu Ray and Dvd release date is March 27th with a digital release on 13th March. Here's the link to the announcement:
https://www.facebook.com/warnerbrosu...4943392905342/ The cover art they showed off in the video looks pretty good. I was expecting them to use the main poster but Newt on his own works too. |

Correction: JK Rowling is writing 5 films total. No one's forcing her to make them. Sure, Warner are happy for the money but this is ultimately JK's baby.

Wow what a wonderful 3D experience this was. I thoroughly enjoyed FBAWTFT from start to finish, certainly more so than some of the latter Potter movies. The FX were terrific and the visuals were top notch. Kind of leaves me scratching my head as to why Legend of Tarzan had such ropey VFX According to sources the budget for Fantastic Beasts was only about $10Mil more than Tarzan, kind of unbelievable when you look at the difference in quality in terms of the CGI and action scenes between the two.
The story was interesting, nothing spectacular but I accept that it serves as more of an introduction to this time period and laying the ground work etc. The cast was good too but the main draw for me here were the wonderful creature designs and the recreation of New York from the 20's. Absolutely amazing stuff, really impressive. The 3D as everyone before me here as already said is very effective, good pop outs, lots of layers and lots of shots with nice deep backgrounds stretching out. They did great work! After two very lacklustre Potter conversions and a fairly underwhelming 3D experience with Tarzan I kind of do wonder who it is who actually pushes for a fantastic 3D conversion like this, or if it is all the conversion house doing their best on their own volition without any specific mandate from the studio. After all the producers for this are the same as the Potter ones so who is it who really says 'Give this movie a great, strong 3D conversion?' I would love to know. Anyway I can't imagine watching this movie in any other format than 3D. I'm sure the picture looks very impressive in 4K but this movie has quite an ugly digital look to the photography which I think the 3D helps alleviate. In 2D it would look much worse. I wish they would shoot blockbusters on film more though as I'm not a fan of the digital photography look at all, especially not on period pieces. |

I'm sure some of you know, but the exterior 'New York' scenes were actually shot in my home city Liverpool, some scenes were filmed 20 seconds walk from my apartment and the big finale scene was filmed outside of St George's Hall a huge landmark in Liverpool. It was quite exciting to see where I live on a big screen (outside of Peaky Blinders lol).

Enjoyed the film, as someone said the 3D is really good providing you have a good 3D TV of course, Eddie was great, though i loved him in The Theory of Everything, i think without him it wouldn't have been as good for sure, casting was good, 8/10 from me.
