Default Will a 4K Blu-ray player make 1080p movies better?

I doubt it. The upscaling abilities of most quality 4K TVs are superior to the upscaling ability af a 4K Blu-ray player.

Why studio many make a movie scanned 4K downscales to BDs 1080p look better?

Make no difference.

No. You cannot add what isn't there in the first place. Only the UHD Blu-ray disc format will give you 10 bit or 12 bit (with Dolby Vision) pixel depth, wide color gamut reproduction, and a greater contrast and dynamic range. Plus, normally higher bitrates with less compression than streaming.

However, you will be able to play Dolby Atmos and DTS: X tracks exclusive to UHD Blu-ray titles...

...and still be able to play immersive surround tracks from regular Blu-ray's as well.

That's not what the OP was asking.

But thank you for playing.

No. Your TV won't be able to output the 4K signals from the player, even if they did enhance the picture. Your 1080p BD will be outputted at 1080p, not 2160p and down converted to 1080p.

The only advantage is the faster operating systems that some of the new players' have. The Samsung is lightning quick to load compared to most BD players.

It has been my experience that 4k blu-ray discs on a 1080p display looked worse than their 1080p blu-ray counterparts.

However, I recently took screenshots of the same frame from Star Trek using the 4K disc and the 1080p disc. Going by the screenshots, the 4k was actually slightly better IMO, contrary to my previous opinion.

It could be the player though. My previous comparisons were between a 4K player and a 1080p media player as opposed to the same disc player. I need to compare the 1080p disc on that player to the 1080p file (from the 1080p disc) on my media player.
