Default Can we change our PSN ID yet?

I know there was rumors going around that in early 2019 we might be able to change our IDs. Anyone know if this has happened yet or any new info on it yet?

It’s not a rumour. It has been officially confirmed. It has not been released yet, but will come with a future firmware update.

I think coverage has died down since the news that trophies could be glitched and old PSN ID could still be seen in online games despite a name change taking place on the PSN infrastructure. It became far less lacklustre once the finer details were released.

Basically, we will be able to, but it probably won't work properly.

Go Sony.

Unless that username reflects a lifestyle falsehood, I don’t see a problem with that PSN ID.

I am really glad i chose a username i'm more than happy with to keep forever on the PSN. I feel like people trying to change their names with the potential issues cited aren't going to be very happy.

I think in the next update most likely, that would qualify as early 2109. I'd like to change mine to match my Gamertag.

Wow! Only 89 years for Sony to implement this feature, eh? Sounds about right!

Don't be ridiculous. 89 years is a bit optimistic tbh.

What's the latest on this? I'm guessing it'll be delayed until Q3 or 4.

Today. Losing trophies? Can't wait to see the rage this creates. Charging for the 2nd+ time is a scam. If this worked as intended across all titles with no issues that's fine, charge money as that's exactly what MS does. Charging for something that you didn't put all the work into? Granted this won't apply to most users but the point still stands.

A comment on EG states the reason this took so long

I have yet to confirm this.

Two more comments seem to back this up.

For years, Sony was telling devs "yep, you can keep using the account ID as a unique key for your stuff, it will never ever change, 100% guaranteed".

And then obviously last year Sony went "oh actually, you know this thing that we said would never ever change? Well it can change now".

And no one is going to re-open the source for old games to fix them and push a patch out, it would be far too much work for which Sony certainly won't compensate the studios. So we're in this situation right now where older titles will have issues if you change your PSN id.

In hindsight they should have told devs to avoid using account names when they were launching the PS4.

There should not be any PS4 games on this list.

Quote:
PlayStation customers can finally update their PlayStation Network IDs, a long-awaited feature that Sony announced in October, starting Wednesday. As previously noted by Sony, the option to change your PSN name comes with a few caveats.

The PSN online ID change feature is supported by games “originally published on or after April 1, 2018,” but the company warns that it cannot guarantee that all games “fully support the feature.” According to Sony, at least 10 games have known “critical issues” as a result of the change, including Sony-published titles like Everybody’s Golf, LittleBigPlanet 3, and some MLB The Show games. Those critical issues include losing PlayStation Trophies or in-game currency (earned or paid) associated with those games.

Other games that don’t work fully with PSN online ID change feature include Bloodborne, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Grand Theft Auto 5, The Last of Us, NBA 2K19, and Warframe. The issues related to those titles and others include less serious problems like previous online IDs displaying and games initializing to their default state.

A full list of games tested to support or have issues with PSN name changes is available at the PlayStation website.

Changing your PlayStation Network ID is free the first time. Sony is charging $9.99 to change a PSN ID beyond that initial change (PlayStation Plus subscribers will pay $4.99). More details about the feature are available at the PlayStation Blog.

I'll say it again, this "Name change" business is gonna cause more issues for those serious about the trophy side of things, in game currency etc.

I mentioned to a friend how i was extremely happy that when i chose my PSN name, it was something i've been very happy to still have to this day and beyond.

So many people will encounter issues... and Sony will be right to say, “Sorry. We gave plenty of warning and information related to these issues occurring. Have a nice day and enjoy your new PSN ID... when it actually works.”

Many lemmings will just jump off of the cliff without doing any research about what they are about to do.

The ol PSN is already outdated. The new PSN keeps your ID locked for security & fraud.

They can emulate a fake sub ID for ya. An absolute ID Account swap ain’t possible without affecting Trophies, Wallet balance, Licence transfers etc etc.

Just got this in my PlayStation Blog Email

Change Online ID

Q: Where and how can I change my online ID?

You can either change your online ID on your PS4 or web browser.

PlayStation 4:

Step 1: From your PS4 go to [Settings].
Step 2: Select [Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Profile] > [Online ID].
Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.
Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.
Web browser:

Step 1: Sign in to your PlayStation Network account and select PSN Profile in the menu.
Step 2: Select the Edit button that’s next to your Online ID.
Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.
Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.

Q. Can I change my online ID on my PS3 or PS Vita?

No. The change can only be made through a PS4 system or web browser.

Q: Do I have to pay to change my ID? How much will it cost?

The first change is free, and changes after that will cost $9.99 USD / CAD. For PlayStation Plus members, it will cost $4.99 USD/ CAD for each change after the first one.

Q: Will my friends be able to find me with my new online ID?

When changing your online ID, you’ll have the option to display your old ID next to your new ID in your Profile for 30 days. This will make it easier for your friends to notice your ID change. You can only select this option at the time you are changing your online ID.

Q: How many times can I change my ID?

In general, there are no restrictions to the number of times you can change your online ID.

Q: Can I revert back to my old ID?

You can as long as the old ID doesn’t violate the Terms of Service. You can revert back to any of your previous IDs by contacting PlayStation Support.

Q. Do I have to pay to revert back to an old ID?

No, reverting back is free.

Q: What happens to my old online ID? Can someone else take it?

No, your old online ID is only available to you.

Q: If I change my online ID multiple times, can I revert back to any of my past IDs?

Yes, you can revert back to any of your previous online IDs, as long as those IDs do not violate the Terms of Service.

Q: How many times can I revert back to an old ID?

In general, there are no restrictions to the number of times you can revert your online ID.

Q: Can any account change their online ID?

Child accounts cannot change their online ID.

Q: Do all games support online ID change?

A large majority of the most-played PS4 games that we tested support the feature. We recommend that you check this list of tested games before you make the actual change. PS3 and PS Vita games are not supported.

Q. What do you mean by a game supports the online ID change if it was ‘originally published’ on or after April 1, 2018?

The game must have launched for the first time on or after April 1, 2018, to support the online ID change feature. For example, a game that first launched back in 2013 that has since been re-mastered or re-sold as a ‘complete edition’ in 2018 does not apply.

Q: Why is it that only games published after April 1, 2018 were developed to support online ID change?

Games published after this date were developed using tools that support online ID change at a system level.

Q: Will all PS4 games released in the future support the feature?

All PS4 games originally published on or after April 1, 2018 have been developed to support the online ID change feature, but we do not guarantee that all games will fully support the feature.

Q: I saw that there are a lot of potential issues and risks associated with changing my online ID. How do I know that I won’t run into these?

We recommend that you check this list of tested games before you make the actual change. A large majority of the most-played PS4 games that we tested support the feature, and we expect major issues to occur only in a small number of games.

Q: What kind of issues could I potentially run into?

Below are some of the issues you may encounter. We expect major issues to occur only in a small number of games.

Your previous Online ID may remain visible to you and other players in some areas.
You may lose progress within games, including game saved data, leaderboard data, and progress towards Trophies.
Parts of your game and applications may not function properly both online and offline.
You may lose access to content (including paid-for content) that you may have acquired for your games including content like add-ons and virtual currency.

Q: What should I do if I encounter an issue by changing my online ID?

If you experience any issues while playing a game that is not on the list of tested games, we recommend that you revert back to your previous online ID that did not have those issues. Reverting back should resolve most issues.

Yeah I'm not going to bother with this. I don't have any games that are on the list with critical issues, but many on the list with secondary issues. Plus it sounds like this is not compatible with PS3 and Vita at all, so it's possible many (all?) of those have critical issues but there's no list to check. I do go back to those from time to time and don't want to murder my save file or trophies or something. I'm going to have to just live with my PSN name.
