Hi all -
I originally posted this in the review thread not realizing it was the wrong place. I apologize for the double post. Mods can remove my post in the other thread. I am having some trouble in paradise and needed some advise. I purchased a Sammy 1400 from Amazon about 3 weeks ago. At that time, I was running an Onkyo 604 and all was great with the exception of not being able to play certain movies. I upgraded the firmware to 1.2 but was still unable to play POTC 3 or Corpse Bride. During that time I also persuaded the boss in letting me pick up an Onkyo 605 so I could move into Lossy Audio. I was reading Samsung's web site regarding the upcoming firmware update required for SOME BD-P1400s in order to play POTC or Die Hard. I was a long shot and maybe I was reading too much into what they wrote but I thought... What if I had one of "those" BD players that would not play POTC? So I called Amazon, which are great with exchanges, told them the truth and before you knew it the UPS Santa dropped off my new 605 and new Sammy. Now comes the real question: I hooked up everything through HDMI and configured for bitstream and everything looked great. POTC even played! I was psyched. Approx 20mins into POTC I began to have what looked like HDMI handshaking issues where the TV looked like it was being turned on then off repeatedly. I thought that this player still couldn't play POTC 3 so I put in ROTSS and within 20mins, it did it again. Then I thought it was something with passing lossless audio and changed back to PCM - no difference. All my movies are doing this, even Casino Royale. The Sammy 1400 has a direct HDMI connection to the Onkyo 605 but my TV is not HDMI 1.3a. I thought everything was backward compatible. I did swap HDMI cables and they are 1.3a compliant from Monoprice. I bought a few to have around. Since I replaced my receiver at the same time I got the replacement Sammy which is to blame? I have always had good success with Onkyo products and this is my 1st Samsung product. Amazon has a great price on the Panasonic 30 right now for $414. Would you blame the Sammy, 605 or TV? Any suggestions would be helpful! AJ |
